Question about Garden Grill

We were just there last night. Food for 4 was delivered on a smallish plate: 1 small piece of fish over rice, 4 small slices of steak, 4 slices of turkey over a small portion of mashed potatoes, vegetable was swiss chard.

It was good, although steak and turkey were a bit well-done. They benefitted from the accompanying sauces (which we got on the side). You can get as much as you want, but you must reorder each time and that takes awhile.

Salad was really good, but they served just barely enough for 3 people (my one son did not eat any). We are not huge eaters, and I thought they were a bit skimpy with the food, esp. @ $38.99pp. Dessert was good also, although it was a smallish serving for 4.

We had an excellent server (Barry) who was very attentive and refilled drinks and food promptly (still took us 1 1/2 hours for dinner). I can see how having a poor server would severely impact one's experience as you really need them to refill your food fairly promptly.

Personally, although I thought the food was fine and our server was excellent, I would not do this meal again at this price. Disney found my limit.

What did they have for dessert?

I always think the portions look small-ish but when I start eating I realize they aren't. Maybe one thing they are trying to do is to keep from having so much food wasted.

I'd love to hear more about what is on the child's skillet (is it still served like that?).

I saw a menu with a crumble dessert-Is that what is still being served? What fruit was in it?

I haven't been to GG since 1999, but I am considering it again. Worried about the food as I don't like certain things.

NOTE: The eatery revolves within The Land pavilion. Portions
of the spin include scenes from the boat ride. The food is plentiful,
with quality above average. The characters include Mickey, Pluto
and Chip-n-Dale. To dine with the characters it will suffice, but the
Quick Service area of Sunshine Seasons within The Land is a great
alternative if characters are not important.

I think GG is one of those places you have to do at least once! The character interaction alone is worth it. Because it's rarely busy (or hasn't been whenever we've been there) they spend a lot of time and Chip & Dale are particularly hysterical! Service has always been great for us, and the rotating idea is something my DD still loves to this day. We still go once a trip, or try to, because of that. The food isn't spectacular but tasty and will fill your belly. :)

We love GG.:lovestruc It's served family style, which I love with small kids, so you don't have to run around at a buffett and never eat together.:headache: I thought the food was a step above and something different than your typical chicken finger type of Disney food. Character interaction was great too.

I think this is the case, too. Especially since you can have more brought out to you of which ever you liked the best. Also we preferred it this way since the food that came out was hot rather than having a huge portion that would get cold right away.

I would also like to know what the desert is. Like an apple pie or something?

When we went this Easter week, dessert was a berry cobbler with some kind of frozen-vanilla topping. It tasted like cool whip rather than ice cream but it was good.

For people who say the food was 'plentiful': I'm guessing the 'platter' they serve is the same whether you are a party of 2 or 4. This is great for 2 to start out with, but I found it awkward with my DH and 2 teen sons. We had to take about 1 tablespoon of potatoes each since everyone wanted some; there was 1 portion of fish, etc.

Yes, you can ask for more, but you need to wait for the waiter, then request, then wait for it to arrive. This is more work than I want to do at dinner. I am usually the last one to finish at any time so yes, it was a slow process even to me.

It is 'plentiful', but that term is vague in regards to this situation.

Character interaction for us (we have gone at least 6 times or more) has always been excellent.
