So my son has read the 10 books needed to get the free book from Borders. It lists the books that he has to choose from for his free one, but I was wondering which might be best liked by an 8 year old. Here are his choices. Some of them seem like they would be more for a girl, but I'll list them all just in case:
Ramona the Brave
Miss Daisy is Crazy
Flat Stanley
Dear Mr. Henshaw
The Ruins of Gorlan
Hoot
The Witch of Blackbird Pond
Johnny Tremain
The River
Kristy's Great Idea

Thanks for you help!

depends on his reading level and what he likes. Flat stanley is a classic easy read, the ruins and hoot good, but hoot is a little above reg 8 yo reading level and subject matter. don't konw about others.

My son's favorite off that list was Flat Stanley when he was in the 2nd grade. He really enjoyed it! His reading group read it.

Miss Daisy is Crazy is part of a series that all the kids that age in my children's school just love. My daughter is going into third, and she read many of those books this past year.

In my opinion, it'd take an extremely mature 8 year old to read Johnny Tremain.

If it the same one, "Kristy's Great Idea" is the first book in The Babysitter's Club series. I read these books at that age, but they are definitly for girls. "Dear Mr. Henshaw" is about a boy who is having trouble learning to write in cursive and starts writing letters to his favorite author for practice.

My DS8 just chose Miss Daisy is crazy because he loves Dan Gutman books. The series he has read is different, but he likes Gutman's style. Also on that list that we already have or have read are The River, Dear Mr. Henshaw and Hoot. All are good. People have already talked about the others, but the River is the sequel, of sorts, to Hatchet by Paulsen. Very outdoorsy and adventurous. Hoot is about saving owls. You really can't go wrong. It's free after all!
