We are at Disney now and considering taking the plunge into DVC. We are 95% convinced that this would be a good move and a great investment for us but I have a question about exchanging points on properties other than Disney.

If I wanted to spend a weekend in New York City in September (for example) how many points does it take? If I wanted to stay in Fort Lauderdale for one night in March before a cruise, how many points? and so on.....

I can't seem to find this info anywhere. I'm interested in knowing the point structure and the procedure.

We love Disney but would like to know that it is an easy option to go somewhere else on our points.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed....

Sandy

P.S. Happy New Year!

The Manhattan Club is the only availability in NYC for single nights. There are a total of 10 locations for the entire Middle Atlantic.

There is nothing available in Ft Lauderdale at all. Not for a week's stay or single nights. There are a total of 39 locations in FL. That's the entire state of FL.

Trading out, especially being very specific with locations and dates, could be a disaster waiting to happen. You are better off requesting a wider time frame and wider location.

Overall, trading out isn't the best use of DVC points.

Thanks Deb for the information....unfortunately, now I'm more confused than ever. We met with someone from DVC yesterday and he gave us a dream book that listed all of the hotels available outside of Disney. There were quite a few listed in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Also, the Regency in NYC was listed. I'm not looking at all inclusives, just straight hotels.

Am I missing something? I do realize that not staying at Disney is not the best value for our DVC but we really aren't interested in travelling to Disney every year. We like the idea of some local trips...ie, NYC, Mont Tremblant, Stowe VT, etc.

I know that RCI is a new partner with Disney so I'm hoping more light can be shed.:confused3

Thanks again for your input!

Since they just announced the change to RCI from II, I'd be the Dream book was the old one and out of date as of 1/1/09. I got my info from the DVC member site that links to RCI.
