Excuse my ignorance.

I own 160 points at VGC. In 2011 we want to stay at BWV but the time of year will require an 11 month window I assume. What is the easiest way to accomplish this? Can I transfer my points to a BWV owner and let them book? Can I rent a minimum number of points to make the reservation and use my own? I am looking at this from all angles, so any help would be appreciated.

The only way to get the entire reservation at the 11 month window is to have enough BWV points to cover the entire trip.

Your points can not be used there until 7 months, even if transferred to a BWV owner as they retain home resort status.

So, you can seek a transfer of BWV points into your account and make the reservation yourself or rent a reservation from a BWV owner. You can then rent out your points.

The only other option is to call at 7 months, book what you can, where you can, and wait list the rest.

Good luck!

After several booking disappointments during the last couple of years, we ended up buying at 5 different resorts to gain the 11 month advantage.

That's why I believe that you need to buy where you love to stay.

What if I were to purchase points at BWV. Would I have to purchase enough to cover the whole trip or can I purchase a minimum amount and transfer my own points between reservations?

Only points from that resort can be used at 11 months, so the points you may buy at BWV can be used at BWV at 11 months, and the points you own at VGC can be used in California at 11 months.

yes.

transferring pts does not change their home resort.

you need BWV pts to book BWV at 11 months. they can be borrowed BWV pts/banked BWV pts/current BWV pts or BWV pts you've transferred in from a BWV owner...but they have to be BWV pts.

Have you considered a direct exchange with a BWV owner? You book a VGC reservation for them; they book a BWV reservation for you.

So basically if you bought 50 BWV points...then used banked, current, and borrowed points you would have 150 points to use every three years at 11 months. That would be a nice plan if you want to stay there occasionally.

yep- this is how some people do it.

We own at Saratoga Springs and it seems you can ALWAYS get in there. So, what I usually do is book there ( or whereever I can get in) and then put in a wait list for the resort I prefer. You can do 2 wait lists at once. So, you can waitlist a preferred view AND value view or 1 BR or 2 Br....whatever you need. If one wait list request is granted, but it was not my first choice, I just call Member Services and put on another wait list request until I get what I want. This has worked out really well for me.

One thing I noticed on my last wait list, it was granted 31 days prior to check in . This shoudl be the last people had to cancel their reservations before getting a penalty. THis seems to be the "magic" day for wait lists. I started wtaching it closely 36 days prior...but 31 was the actual day it upgraded.

What time of year exactly are you talking about? I have had very good luck booking BWV inside the 7 month window, both were for somewhat popular times - end of October for F & W Fest, and for spring break (albeit not Easter week.) I have heard that BW views tend to book fast as well as standard views (though I got standard view for both my reservations.)
