Thinking of taking the tour in May and want to know if DVC is like other tours where the price may change from on sales person to the next, where it gets, lower and lower. THey pass you from one manager to the next and each has a better deal or all they all pretty much the same on the terms offered.

Thanks :teeth:

NO but the incentives they offer do expire after you get home from your vacation so unless you are sure you can make the decision right now don't tour. Once you tour there is a 3 day time limit to decide after you get home from your vacation. Now some guides will extend it others will not. Ours did not and we learned off the disboards that some will but it is the luck of the draw.

I for one "loved" that Disney does not employ this tactic.

The only thing they don't tell you about is the Disney resale market. (Cause they want you to buy new inventory/get financing from them...DUH)

When we bought almost two years ago, We had looked at other FL timeshares but wanted to see what DVC was like. I had done some preliminary "research" before I went so had a good idea already of the seasons/points concept and had time to ask more in depth technical kind of questions instead of the basics.

But we didn't feel pressured like some presentations I've been to in the past.

So there are better incentives while you're there?

The incentives may change from time to time, but what your DVC Guide (sales person) tells you will be true. If they tell you "this promotion ends next Thursday", you can bet it's true.
On any given day ALL guides will have one and only one price to offer (allowing for the previously mentioned incentives). You will not be passed around with offers of lower prices.

I found the DVC presentation to be more of an informational meeting, rather than a sales pitch. The product sells itself, and DVC will not use high pressure tactics.

Good luck... :drinking:

WE found this to be true also!! We contacted a DVC Rep after our third trip staying in the WORLD and our Rep was so nice and never once did we feel pressured to by or the discounts would not last. She even told us to take some time and discuss if this was what we really wanted. We are new members as of this year at SSR and really excited regardless of some negative comments. We will attempt however to stay at other resorts beacuse we do like the variety, however we will NOT be dissapointed at staying at SSR no matter what.

No, the incentives aren't any better whether you take the tour or buy sight unseen. What happens, though, if you do take the tour, DVC starts a countdown clock on the current incentive. Once you return home from your vacation, you have 3 days to decide to buy with the incentive. After the 3rd day, the incentive is gone and if you want to buy after that point, you're paying full price. (For example, when we toured the price was $95 with a $10 off incentive. So if you decide to buy w/in the 3 day time period, your price is $85, after 3 days, your price is $95.) So, if you don't tour, there is no "countdown" clock on the current incentive. That incentive will be in place for you until DVC changes it for everyone.

So, do your research now and be ready to decide yay or nay when you take the tour. Also check out the resale market too.

My wife and recently returned from WDW a few weeks ago. We were invited to Orlando by Starwood to stay at the Sheraton Vistana Villages for 4 nights for a total of $220. They through in a $100 voucher which we were able to accept in cash.

We were not required to take the tour, but they offered us another $75 for an hour and a half of our time. We had sat through the Marriott timeshare presentation on a previous trip to Hawaii, and it was really something we were interested in doing, we just weren't ready to make the financial commitment at that time (approximately $35-40K buy in). After sitting through the Starwood presentation, I came to the decision that (except for some minor differences) their program was similar to Marriott's (buy in at the Vistana Village was about $17K).

After our 4 nights at the Sheraton, we moved over to the Marriott Courtyard on Palm Parkway for the remainder of our stay to be closer to Disney. This was the one day that it rained cats and dogs constantly from morning until night (we had tickets to the Astros/Braves game which was rained out). I inquired at the Guest Services desk about suggestions for indoor activities for the day. The guy offered us 2 Epcot 1 day passes for $50 if we did the Marriott timeshare presentation at their new Horizons resort. Since it was raining and our room at the Courtyard was not going to be ready for a few hours (and we planned to go to Epcot the next day), we accepted his offer.

I was not impressed with the Horizons resort (by in around $16K), but they did allow us to tour the other Marriott property they are still selling (I forget the name, but it had a Mediterranian look to it). This was a very nice property (buy in betwen $22-25K).

In both instances (Starwood and Marriott), we felt like we were getting the used car sales approach. We were very upfront with our Starwood guide, and told him we would not be buying that day. The moment he realized he hadn't hooked us, he informed us he only had a few more minutes to spend with us as their were potential buyers banging down the door. He was very nice and did spend a bit more time with us answering all of my questions.

We experienced a similar situation at the Marriott. The guide here was also real nice, bt then they sent in the closer to try one final pitch (didn't work).

In both cases we were offered incentives of Starwood/Marriott points (among other things) if we signed that day. If we walked away, the incentives no longer applied. After turning down each of these offers, we met with one final person who offered us the opportunity to return to the resort in 12-18 months for a week for about $1400. If we chose to buy at that time, the cost of the vacation would be deducted from our purchase price.

Admittedly, this was very tempting, especially the Marriott offer as I travel quite a bit for work and have several 100K points already in my Marriott Rewards account.

What amazes me is that once these people realize that you are not going to buy that day, they act like you have some sort of disease. They don't seem to take into account that I might be considering buying at a later time, but probably won't based on the way I'm treated as I'm walking out the door (this happened in Hawaii as well).

To make a long story short, we spoke to a few people during our stay in Orlando about the Disney Vacation Club. We took the SSR tour our last full day and signed up immediately! Afte rthe presentation, we just felt much more comfortable buying into the Disney program. Tommy C. did a great job as our guide!

The 3-Day time limit on incentives offered during the tour normally only applies if your VERY FIRST contact with DVC occurs while at WDW. Those of us who purchased remotely had no such limitations placed on our ability to receive the discount.

I would recommend that you make contact with DVC before your trip if you haven't already. Schedule the tour ahead of time so that you aren't left trying to squeeze it in on a whim. And, be very clear with the Guide that you may not be ready to purchase immediately, but also don't want to be in danger of losing incentives just 3 days after the tour.

As others stated, the discounts offered during the tour are the same discounts that will be offered if you contact them remotely. There is no haggling over the price, and the price will not continue to fluctuate in response to your level of interest.

Good luck!
