Question about DVC and the other 500 locations

Hi! Just curious as to how the DVC works as far as going to one of the 500 locations around the world. How would it work if you were going to Disneyland in Cali. (would you be staying at one of the DL resort hotels?) or New York for example. Also where exactly are the 500 locations (link?). Looked on the dvc website and couldnt find the exact cities. Thanks for any info.

There are a number of exchange opportunities -- some are for other timeshares, some for resorts, some for cruises, etc. Probably the best way to get introduced to the exchanges is to visit the DVC web site, order the DVD or speak with a guide since the opportunities are quite significant.

The process for exchanges is simple. All exchanges have specified points (which generally go up each year, unlike the DVC resort points). Reservations are made by calling member services.

Many here will advise that DVC's best value is for use within the DVC system. If you want to regularly trade out to go elsewhere you might be better off buying buying fewer DVC points -- say enough to visit Disney every other year -- and then buy an EOY timeshare elsewhere for non-Disney vacations.

We would like to go somewhere around our locale. Where can I find a list of other places?
On the members' website - I just tried, though and there appears to be some problem with that particular page. Maybe the server is down or maybe something is being updated. Maybe it will be back up by the time you read this and try for yourself.

As noted, DVC is not a good choice to buy for exchanging. As for things near Chicago, there isn't a lot. The closest options will be Branson (and ozarks), Wisconsin Dells, TN locations, a few choices in MI, Hershey, Pocono's, Arkansas and a couple in Indiana. That's for all of II, many of those are not on the DVC exchange list. If you look at RCI (the other main exchange company), the list grows somewhat but not that much. If you truly want to go to places in your area I'd do some research and either buy at one you want to visit routinely OR in a points system where you can easily get in to resorts you like. Bluegreen has Boyne, Hershey, Branson and Wisconsin Dells covered in your area. Wyndham would be another than came to mind as a good and reasonably priced points system with resorts in your general area. Both primarily trade with RCI but can trade with II as well.

Is there any way of getting something sent to me by DVC?:confused3 Going to try again on the site though. Thanks:thumbsup2
I don't think they keep a running list. II maintains a website link for DVC where it's updated on the fly. If you're a member it shouldn't be hard to access the link from the website.
