We are going to disney for the first time. We are planning on driving because my mom is deathly afraid of flying(I'm not too keen on it either) Is 95 really bad everyone keeps telling me that it's a dangerous interstate and I've never really driven that far from home. I do the interstae driving but usually like 3 lanes and I'm good with that but a little nervous about driving on 5 lanes. Also if it is too much on the "crazy drivers" side is there another route I could go? I'm coming from MD. TIA

It's no worse than I-95 between Baltimore and DC. And definitely better than either beltway (I live in Maryland). You will hit traffic south of DC on I-95 depending on the time of day. Usually rush-hours) Also around Richmond, VA.

Who says it's dangerous and why? (Though driving is much more dangerous than flying) In the more rural areas you will be down to 2 lanes in both directions. From Maryland the drive can be done in 1 or 2 days. Depends on how much you want to drive in 1 day.

Don't sweat it and have fun.

I live in Northern VA and have driven to Disney on 95 several times and being from VA I can say once you get south of Richmond its a nice ride. The only place I worry about traffic is around Jacksonville. There are some sections it goes down to 2 lanes and as long as you stay right and let the rest of us drive in the left you you are ok.

Thanks for the input! A few people I work with told me there is alot of road rage and so forth on 95. I really wasn't nervous about driving until talking to these people. So far we are planning on stoping in georgia,, we have a friend that lives there and then driving to florida that way we're well rested!

Dont worry about it. Yes there is much congestion for a while around DC area and a bit after but than it is quite a nice ride from there. We come from NJ and i have to admit for the first few hours of our driving until we hit after Richmond i really dont like it at all.

I agree with this. The first time I drove the DC beltway was about 32 years ago on a trip to WDW. Scared to death and it was only 8pm or so. Once you get about 20 miles north or south of DC it's pretty smooth driving.
