Question about drink packages

How does Disney control an open bar??? I have an open bar for my 21+ guests, and then a soda/water package for those under 21. So my question is how is this enforced? Do they count the number of people drinking and bill for that number??

I know disney's whole if you are 9+ you are an adult... does that mean that they are included in the tab for alcohol... even though they can't drink it? and also if they are 9+ can they still get a kids meal? Some of my nieces and nephews would not be impressed with some of the foods that we might serve. So chicken fingers and pizza would be a better option.

Kids meals are for ages 3-9, although I dont know how that would be enforced either. I was a little scared of the menus... we wanted ours simple but still elegant. The menu we picked (Lady & The Tramp Rehearsal Dinner buffet) is great! I dont think kids will have a problem eating it... we're not doing a kids menu at all.

Does that mean that I have to tell them how many people are under 21? Cause I will have to look into that... there are some people that will be really close but I am not sure if they will be of age.

I am planning on getting the premium brands package where you just pay per person for the over 21s and Water and Soda for the under 21s. I figure the packages are better for the people I am inviting... there are a couple of people that if we just ran a tab would make it really high, cause for them its FREE!

Yep, I asked the ones I wasnt sure about. At my planning session my EM asked for rough numbers on those under 21, under 9 and under 3. Then she prepared a budged based on these numbers. I'm having an open bar... but if you're doing bill on consumption you really dont need to worry about it.

I got the package bar for the exact same reason as you! I didnt want to worry about how much people were drinking. I got the call brands... the cheapest one.

hmmmm...i'm doing boc and i had them lower my estimate from 6 drinks per person to 3. i'm not sure how the regular bar works, but in my case, i think it'll be cheaper.

I'm doing an open bar because I need it to meet my $100 minimum... otherwise its probably cheaper to do BOC. Although I do worry about how many drinks people will run up if we're BOC.

they're not making me hit a 100 min. is your reception at night? i'd rather do more cocktail hour food or another desert than have them rip you off at the bar. i mean, i guess it depends on how many people will be drinking and how much.

My ceremony is 2:30, so unfortunately I'm in the $100/pp bracket. The way I have everything set up, I'm at $102/pp including coctail hr food, alcohol, food and cake. If I get extra food to bring the total to $100/pp, I still have to pay BOC alcohol on top of that... so really the package bar is best for me.

Yep, you're definitely saving $$ Caryn!! You're 10am right? I just couldnt do it that early. With my large wedding party we'd have to get up sooooo early to get 7 hair & makeups done. Also, I wanted my picture taking to be done at the warmest part of the day... just in case its super cold!

I have a kind of relevent question. Right now I am going between 2 dates...December 6 2008 and February 14 2009. If I decide to go with the December date I won't be 21 yet...do you think Disney would stop me from having a cocktail or 2 at my own wedding???

I was about a week from my 21st bday and went to Pleasure Island with some girlfriends (also under 21). We drank a bit before we went, but were not drinking at PI. I was SOOOOO thirsty, so I asked for a glass of ice water from the bar. Apparently the bartender gave me the wrong cup because within 2 minutes I had all kinds of Disney security all over me asking to see my ID. When I tried to explain that it was only ice, they walked me over to the bartender I used, lectured him, and poured my ice water into a paper cup!!

Be careful with that whole situation!!! Disney is completely 100% by the book, and if they knew your age I'm almost positive that they'd give you sparkling juice or something instead of champagne.
