Question about double strollers

I'm a big fan of Joovy's Caboose Ultralight for use at WDW. I see a lot of them there when we visit.

Its much more narrow, and I think maneuverable, then the side by side doubles.

We had a Baby trend, but thought that it was too long/bulky.

We have a city select with the extra seat which is out of your price range (but if you can find one used around your price range definitely look at it!). I know a lot of moms with various Joovy strollers and they like them!

As for a previous posters babywearing comment, I babywear a good amount of the day (wraps, ring slings, SSCs), but I can tell you that a double stroller comes in so handy when I just do not want a kid attached to me and DD1 doesn't want to walk. We weren't using the stroller too much before DD2 was born (they are exactly 2 years apart), but now that DD1 sees DD2 riding, she wants to ride as well a lot so its nice for her to have that option when both need to ride and I don't want to babywear!

That you-I had been eyeing this brand (Joovy), but the one I was reading about had a larger minimum weight (would not accommodate a newborn)-maybe I will look into other models.

Several posters have recommended this City Select-I'm going to look more into these. I belong to a few local mommy exchanges in Facebook, so I'll look around to see if they have any for sale.

Yes, I like to have options! My DD did not like to be worn until she was around 3 months old (she hated swaddling as well)-she liked being held, but not worn, so if this one is the same, I want to be prepared :)

I understand completely, I never thought I'd own a leash for my child (love those things) until after my daughter was born. She has 2 speeds stop and wide open, so I understand wanting the ability to tie them into a stroller when out for a walk. I'd probably try craigslist as mentioned, I saw a double city mini for about $150 the other day so they pop up once in a while.

The backpack leash was my saving grace when we took my DD to WDW this year!:worship: She was a newer walker and very interested in practicing & this allowed her to have fun and be safe. We don't use it so much with her anymore, but my parents (who are elderly) still use it with her when they take her shopping or for walks in their neighborhood :)

I'm going to move this to the Family board, where you'll find a lot of folks with similar interests. :)

Sounds great-thank you!

Congratulations!

I suggest checking out the stroller subforum on the baby bargains book forums. IME, they know their strollers!

I think most people find side by sides steer way better and easier, so I would at least check some out.

The city mini double mentioned above gets great reviews. The Mountain Buggy Duet is super narrow for a side by side. http://mountainbuggy.com/us/Buy/strollers/duet-side-by-side. It is also over your budget though. I will say that I have never regretted spending money on good strollers. I walk a lot and broken down by days of use or by miles, a good stroller has always been a bargain for me! I definitely suggest checking Craigslist for used strollers as well.

I'd suggest holding off on a stroller - as you don't know what this next baby will be like. None of my three would use the stroller, so it was the sling all the time. (Well, we were able to get the child to use a stroller at Disney at 3, but not before that). Some babies love strollers. Some hate them. It's fine to do your research now, but I wouldn't buy one until your baby is here since you don't know what you'll actually need yet.

I love love LOVE the City Select stroller - and I get a LOT of compliments/questions about it when we're out & about. It's so easy to maneuver! (We usually take it apart to throw it in the car, so I can't say if it's easy to fold up with the seats on. However, it is SO easy to take apart & fold up.)

This is a picture of the way we have it configured 99.999% of the time, but you can also have it be a single stroller, have them both face forward or both backwards as well. (And you can get a glider for the back side if you decide you want to go for #3 eventually... ;) )

Another thumbs up for the city select. We took it this weekend for our first trip and it was great. Lots of storage space. For the price we have paid thus far around 488 for the stroller, the extra legs to move the seat around on, tray attachment, and car seat attachment. They also have a luggage bag for around 50.

I had a hand me down duo glider that got some use. I also had a Maclaren single and cheap umbrella from when we only had older dd. If I had to take both kids on my own the double worked ok but I called it "Semi" because it got so heavy and cumbersome. There was a period my oldest became a runner so if I used a single and had her walk instead of using the double I used the leash.

For larger family trips to the zoo, airport, etc. when my youngest was a baby we would take one of the umbrellas, a baby Bjorn, and a leash. We would start out with older dd in the stroller and younger dd in the Bjorn. Then as time went on oldest wanted to walk but couldn't be trusted to not run away she would use the leash and youngest would ride in the stroller. This was way easier thank pushing a cumbersome double around.

When we went to Disney we rented a BOB Dualie from Kingdom Strollers. This coming trip will be the last time we need a double and will rent a City Elite. These are great for Disney but I wouldn't have wanted them for everyday.

How do your kids not kick each other in the face? I can imagine one wrong look/word and BAM...foot in the face! :rotfl:

When my son was 3 and we are expecting his sister, we got a Graco Quattro Tour Duo. It worked well and we liked it. Lots of storage space and I believe it works well with many types of infant carriers. We tried the duoglider and hated it. It felt cheap. My son was uncomfortable in it and it did not recline all the way in the front. I have since sold that stroller (which was in excellent shape) as well as 2 other single strollers we owned. We now have a Baby Jogger City Micro which I love. A tandem stroller (front to back) is good when your kids are little but not good as they age. My kids both wanted to be able to be in front and get the best view (although our Tour Duo had stadium seating). Looking back, I wish I'd purchased a Baby Jogger City Mini Duo. It's very light and we would have used it for a longer period of time. We are now past the stage where we need a double for anything but Disney (and hopefully only this trip). So we are renting. :)

I have twin 1 year olds, so their feet don't reach each other's faces... They do sometimes kick, but not often. Our 4 yo knows that if she is in the stroller she has to be careful, or she'll be walking.
