Question about double strollers

I am so excited to finally be able to announce that we are expecting baby #2!!!:cloud9:

We are starting to research double strollers and, admittedly, I am clueless. I do know that I want a stroller that is front/back & not a side to side one-the side by side ones just look like they take up an entire aisle of a store or walking area. I also want one where both of my kids can sit (I don't want my 2 year old to have to stand).

My DD is going to be just over two years old (27 months) when our second baby will be born. My DD is average weight (a bit on the petite side) & average height, but leaning toward the taller end of average.

Are all sitting double strollers made to accommodate a variety of weights? Or are they really geared toward twins with similar weights? I'm looking for one that will fit a newborn in one seat and my 2 year old in the other seat. My 2 year old is currently about 25 pounds, so I'm guessing one that fits up to 35/40 pounds would be best?

Any advice on best brands or styles to buy?

Thanks! :)

*PS-This stroller is not for a Disney trip, or anything like that. It's just for weekly use at home.

First off congrats!!!!

Stroller recommendation: Stroll Air-My duo. Seriously it is the best stroller ever! It is uncommon here, but popular overseas (we did buy ours locally here in Orlando so they are getting more popular). The stroller itself is the same width as a wheelchair, so you will not have any issues fitting through doors or aisles. We have three kids now (4, 2.5, and 2 week old) and I love that I can configure it to make it work for whatever combo of kids I have with me.

Wow, that looks like an awesome stroller, but unfortunately, it is way out of our price range. I'm looking to spend between $150-$250ish.

I googled that stroller and it looks cool! But my eyes bugged out of my head when I saw the price...$700-800!!!!!!

I have no personal experience (not planning to TTC until next year) but I've had my eye on the Contours Options LT Tandem Stroller.

Thank you! That's on the high end of our price range, but I"m willing to spend it if it's a good stroller-looks nice! I'm going to look more into this one.

Please continue to reply with more suggestions!!! :)

I wanted a back front double stroller for the same reason you mentioned. But I ended up hating it, I found it to be a PITA to maneuver. As soon as my youngest was big enough I bought a side by side stroller (Inglesina Swift Twin).

Make sure you "test drive" a few in the store.

For one sorry... The Stroll Air must have gone up significantly in price since we bought two years ago. We definitely didn't pay over $500 for it. Crazy, but it is an amazing stroller!!!

Two DO NOT BUY THE CONTOURS. We had one before we bought the stroll air and I sold it within a month. It is beyond long and really difficult to turn. We had my 4 month old and a 20 month old (both twigs) and my husband even complained about the difficulty in maneuvering. It was a waste of money.

If you want a less expensive option, check out a city mini double. You can find them on craigslist pretty regularly. The City Select is similar to the contour but much shorter and easier to use. The regular city mini is what all of the rental companies use down here at WDW and we love our single.

Why not check Craigslist if you want to save money? We got a lot of stuff from Craigslist for DS - including his stroller. We got the exact model we wanted so his carseat could fit into it and saved a ton.

You have plenty of time to find what you are looking for which is perfect for Craigslist.

Thank you for the tip-I will make sure to test drive before I buy. :)

Thank you so much-this is really good info. I know nothing about stroller brands! We currently have a Chicco Keyfit Travel System and a Jeep umbrella stroller (great yard sale find). Love the Jeep, hate the Chicco-it's so heavy and bulky & we never use it anymore. I'm expecting a double stroller to be heavy as well, but I"m hoping to find the lightest and easiest one. I will look into the City Select-thank you!

We are definitely looking into Craigslist as an option. I also belong to some local mommy exchange groups on FB. Just want to narrow down a specific brand and model first. :)

I can't comment on a brand becasue my two are in their late 20's now.

I had a front/back 2 seater for my 2 who are 28 months apart. I loved it. It gave me the freedom to go out to the mall and places alone while DH was at work.

Baby Jogger or Britax B-Agile, they are more then you want to spend but you might have luck at a consignment store.

What about 2 seperate strollers? Before DD was born we bought a Eddie Bauer travel system and hated the stroller, then bought an umbrella stroller at Babies R Us and used it till it wore out, and finally after hearing everyone on hear talk about the City Mini we bought one. When DS (now 4months) DD(now 30months) was born we decided to be on the lookout for another stroller, last week I found a City Mini GT for $120 new at an outlet store. Its easier for DW and I to push two strollers than to push a double through a store, plus once DD gets older I'll sell one and recoup some of my money while continuing to use the other.

My DH initially suggested separate strollers, but I really want the option of taking them both out at once, if I'm by myself while DH is at work or whatnot. My toddler loves to walk, but walking often turns into running lol & I'd like the option of seating both of them, when needed.

You might also look into using a sling or wrap for the baby as opposed to a stroller.

I understand completely, I never thought I'd own a leash for my child (love those things) until after my daughter was born. She has 2 speeds stop and wide open, so I understand wanting the ability to tie them into a stroller when out for a walk. I'd probably try craigslist as mentioned, I saw a double city mini for about $150 the other day so they pop up once in a while.

I'm going to move this to the Family board, where you'll find a lot of folks with similar interests. :)
