Hi,
I am not sure if it is okay to post this question here, but I can't think of anywhere else I can ask it. I just saw a thread on dizpins that disturbed me-- and reminded me of a thread that I saw on here in the last several weeks in which someone had been banned from the dizpins boards-- maybe for posting controversial threads???? I have read a few of the so-called controversial, offensive threads/ posts and found them to be frank, but not attacking as I have seen on several other sites. And, I have also noticed some odd types of things happening on that board in the few months I have visited-- people no longer having references, but not necessarily for bad trades????

Okay, what started my questions was that a person was leaving the dizpins community because -- as was stated in the message---

A fond farewell to 'The Ohana'. Thanks to Kellybean for the telephone reminder that Magic is what these forums are all about and that Magic is all that is welcome here. . . but I have come to realize that I am not willing to participate in a forum where only "happy thoughts" are welcome. I consider that to be living in a vacuum and I can't breathe in a vacuum.

Can someone tell me if this type of behavior-- a moderator calling or emailing someone who posts something controversial-- is typical on dizpins???

I frequent several message boards on a broad array of topics, and this seems a bit unusual. Can someone clue me??? You can email me or PM me if you don't want to post publicly. Thanks, Diane

So far I have not been banned. :jester: All my thoughts are far from Happy.
I hope the poster joins us here. :wave2: This is more of an open forum and we manage to do it without name calling -- well except Jeff and Ed. :jester: ;)
My instinct tells me "Yes" is the answer to your question.
Knock wood, I have had no problems or issues worth mentioning.

I like the opportunities to trade that Dizpins offers, but they certainly are strict about what they allow to be discussed. It's not hard to tick them off. I should know, I have done it myself.

As for being banned, I am still a member. I can still post. But, I keep my concerns about my perceptions of some of the hypocrasy to myself.

I will keep my mouth shut beyond this point. Dizpins is still more good than bad, but it can be really restrictive. Maggie

I remember reading the thread that disturbed
the person that posted the goodbye...
she posted an opinion and she was attacked
from many of the members about her opinion.

I know that poster personally, (although I haven't
talked with her in quite some time) she made a special
trip to the DLR area to meet us last year for
breakfast - and had no intentions of going to the
park that particular day. We made some fantastic
trades and she is very nice!

I find it funny that her post was edited down
by a moderator from what you copied to your
post here - but that is no surprise! They edit
the edits sometimes it seems!

I was kicked off (for posting my opinion about
Disney and Nascar getting together!)
And the overwhelming backstabbing that happened
to me, and it STILL happening, is unbelievable!
They kicked me off, and continue to talk and spread
rumors behind my back.

I know past moderators who have been kicked off...
I even know of moderators who have made some
pretty good excuses to take a "break" and who we
have never seen back there...

Luckily I was invited to join here (invited because
I had never heard of anything but Dizpins - you
don't normally need a written invitation!)... and tho
I was pretty reluctant, thinking it was just another
"ohana means family but you WILL get left out" site
after emailing a wonderful moderator about what
goes and asking if I'd really be welcomed, I decided to
join!

The world doesn't revolved around Dizpins, or any
pin site of the kind... but unfortunately, when people
have a livelihood that they spend so much of their
time with, it is devistating to be kicked off... and I
know several people who have willingly left because
they feel that their opinions and things don't matter!
Basically, only happy thoughts ARE indeed welcome
there... you need major prozac and/or a constant IV of
Vodka and OJ to be THAT HAPPY ALL the time!

That is the wonderful thing about this place at the DIS...
everyone matters here! It might not be the most active
board out there... but we all get along regardless of
our geographical, biological, political, or favorite Disney
character differences. Everyone matters at the DIS!

Thanks for posting here Diane!

Welcome to the DIS Collectors Board!

Opinions are welcome here too . . . both good and bad.

As to what is welcome on the other board . . . that apparently is at the discretion, more or less, of one person.

Hi, everybody,
Thanks for your information and feedback.

As for disboards, it's so funny, because I have been frequenting this site for a long time- the restaurant, theme board, resort, etc. threads to plan our trips-- and have just discovered the collectibles board!!!

Thanks everyone for the input. And, I probably agree with the poster who said that Dizpins is probably more good than bad-- the News page is quite helpful as is pinpics. However, I will remember to be careful. Thanks for the welcome and the information, Diane.

I am the poster of the thread in question at Dizpins Boards. The moderator called me because we are aquainted. That is to say I have been a friend to her, but I can't say the same about her. 90-95% of the many calls I used to receive from her were venting or obsessing about some little 'politic' issue and I find her concern over the negativity to be the height of hypocrisy.

She and I had quite the discussion about how 'negative' all the posts have been over there lately and how upset 'Grandma' has been over it. She insists that all the moderators are 'sick' of all the negativity because they HAVE to read it all and can't skip over threads the way that regular members can.

Well having been a moderator elsewhere, I understand fully the difficulties surrounding the position however the place I moderated for didn't feel they had to micro-manage every single thread.

:yo-yo: :yo-yo: :yo-yo: :yo-yo:
Real life isn't happy, cheerful and "full of magic" 24/7 and I don't want to waste my time being apart of something were only that is welcome. Generally speaking, I am not a negative person so I don't think that occassionally speaking my mind will be a problem over here - or so Heather told me in email when she told me about Disboards

Dizpins keeps everyone in line by making them feel unwelcome or even banning members who don't comply with their desired environment; and they keep everyone in fear that 'Grandma' will pull the plug and shut down the boards (boards that the members contributed to in order to keep them open in the first place!). I think if they just relaxed and stopped trying to edit out so much all the time that the community would police itself and be just fine. But of course I know how to let go and just let people be themselves. There is a difference between keeping personal attacks off the boards and creating an oppressive environment. Perhaps one day they will learn this lesson.

Hopefully one day I will feel like being part of a community again and if so, this will be the place I check first... in the mean time, I think I will likely take a little break. I am sure I will see you again.

:thewave:

Dear Kathi,

I want you to know that I read your post last night shortly after you wrote it, and was waiting to see if any of your "ohana" would act like "ohana" and say something loving, or encouraging--dead silence; eventually I saw one post, saying "goodbye", but it was pretty short and sweet.

I am not "ohana" over there--I am just someone who occasionally posts, and trades, and who is pretty much ignored, but I wanted to scream a reply to your post, just like I wanted to scream a reply when Heather was kicked off!!! I just can't figure out what is wrong with this group that they act like "Stepford" people!!! They all go around saying "Ohana means noone gets left behind", and then they not only leave you behind, they kick you out of the family and shun you!!

I gotta say, as well, all this "grandma" stuff kills me!! what is with that? First of all, is she older than me???? I don't even want my baby granddaughter to call me "grandma" so I sure as heck don't want to be callin' a peer of mine "grandma"!!

For everyone who says "but it's more good than bad", I have to say "yes, the site has great information, great trading and selling, etc; but the discussion community is totally disfunctional; and the way these people act is disfunctional; and the thing I pointed out when Heather was banned, is these are real people, with real feelings, and whether someone is a "cyberspace" friend, or a "real" friend, people are getting hurt over there when this "shunning" happens; and everybody that keeps their mouth shut about it, and goes along with it is being held hostage by their fear--and that includes me. I'd post over there right now, but I'm sure it would be pulled in a second before anyone even got to see it. The whole thing is bizarre and quite frankly sickening.

The truth is, we have a much less active community over here on our collector's board; but nobody has to bow down to Pete Werner, fawn all over him, and call him "grandpa"; we are allowed to have dicussion and complaints and differences of opinion as long as noone gets personal or vulgar (except Ed)etc.

So, Kathi, I am so glad Heather invited you here (I actually went looking for your email on the other board so I could invite you myself) and I know that you are probably feeling many conflicting emotions, but I hope you will stay with us.

Ditto to everything that Ruthie said!

Kathi! So glad you joined... even if
you just lurk here til you feel comfortable...
we'll be here for you!

Rant and rave, praise, or make fun of Ed...
anyway you have it... this is the place to be!

Hope to see more of you soon!

:wave2:

Seems to me I was told my stories could not be posted here unless they were on topic about collecting.

And some of my posts were deleted or moved because they were as we say not on topic.

Censorship is everywhere kids.

And so I ask (since I'm soon to be banned anyway) What has this to do with Collecting???? :teeth:

Oh dont send hate mail I'm leaving.... See I'm gone. :teeth:

Ruthie we still getting married or what???

Okay, everyone. This subject has run its course and I'm asking everyone to let it go.

There has been a longstanding policy here on the DIS that the policies and happenings on other web sites should not be discussed, debated, or argued here. This is a decision the Webmasters decided with regard to other issues and should be applied to the issue of dizpins as well.

The moderator team here has been pretty lenient on this matter in the past, but at this point it's a dead horse and we should move on to other things.

I would like to thank everyone for one thing -- the posts in this thread and others, while passionate, were well thought out and never devolved into complete nastiness. I think that says a lot about the community of collectors we have on this board. :)
