Hi all! DH and I are registered for our first runDisney event ever... the Expedition Everest Challenge!! We are super excited and have been training for a few weeks now. After doing some research on the race, I saw that all the finishers receive a medal. Last year it looked like a compass (awesome!). That made me curious about the other races during the year. Do all the 5K participants receive medals during other races, or is the EE Challenge special because it's a timed race? I know that all of the marathoners, half marathoners and Tower of Terror 10 Miler will get medals, but I wasn't sure about the 5K races they have during those weekends as well. Does anyone know?

For the 5k during marathon weekend finishers received a rubber (plastic) "medal". I assume the other 5k events are similar.

All untimed Disney 5k receive the plastic rubber medals. EEC is special in that is timed and has a scavenger aspect to it so it has metal medal.

Are you talking runDisney 5k's or 5k's in general? I believe all 5k's put on by runDisney do give you at least a rubber medallion but most normal, local 5k's do not. Most give trophies, plaques, or medals to the top 3 overall winners and the top 3 in each age group but not to all finishers.

There are some exceptions of course but of the 100+ 5k's I've done I have only done one where every finisher gets a medal and one where the top 100 got one.

The Family 5Ks give out "medallions"...you can look in my sig and the ones on the far left are the rubber medallions (Halloween and Royal Family). They used to give real medals for the Champion 5K during ESPN the Weekend, but that was a timed race and unfortunately will no longer be held. (You can see a couple of those medals in my sig photo as well...also toward the left end.) I guess this leaves the EEC as the only timed 5K with a real finisher's medal at WDW.

Pretty much you can tell by the cost of entering the race. The 5Ks that only cost $50 to enter are not timed and give rubber medallions to finishers.

Thanks everybody!! The EE Challenge is my first runDisney race so I wasn't sure about the others. If this 5K goes well I'll definitely be doing more in the future, possibly with the rest of my family. So I was curious to know if we'd receive anything for finishing a regular 5K (Disney races). It makes perfect sense that untimed races wouldn't receive a real metal medal but I am glad that Disney gives something to the finishers. Thanks!
