It's not a big deal but it is desirable in many ways to have them combined. But assuming your trips require sufficient point volume to make 2 separate contracts reasonable, this is the situation where it often is worth it. To what resorts and what times do you normally travel.
That is the problem I am running into. We usually vacation at two times of year, October for food and Wine and Spring( not spring break). We own Poly with a DEC UY that I would like to use of our spring trips in the future and want to buy BCV for our Food and Wine trip in October. Two different resorts, times of years for travel and probably two different member numbers.
The issues currently with them being separate are related to using points together at 7 months and just keeping up with it, like balancing a checkbook. In the past it has also been an advantage for banking since it was based on percentage of total points in the master contract but that has changed and likely won't return. How many points do you own and how many are you looking to buy?
We have 150 at Poly, which is just a hair small IMO. We would like to purchase between 150 and 175 at BCV. We don't do any cooking on vacation and have found that the studios work quite well for our needs. if we decide that we need more space, we will use those points every other year.
I have a Dec UY at BWV and will soon have additional contracts at VGF with the same UY. I have never had a problem with using the Dec contracts for F&W. The problem only arises if you have to cancel a trip after your banking deadline (and you end up rescheduling that F&W trip for Nov in order to prevent a loss of points) or, with a last-minute cancellation, you end up with holding points with very little time to use them and very limited availability due to "Fall Frenzy".
It sounds like you could purchase the BCV resale but just realize it'll be roughly as expensive as the Poly when you consider all the factors. Ignoring that, it sounds like the best way to do what you state you want is to find a BCV contract resale in the range you're looking for then do an add on at Poly of 25 points or so. You might wait on the Poly in case you find a slightly larger BCV contract of say 200 or so and truthfully, that may be your best bet anyway. You sure you want to pay $15-20 a point more for BCV over BWV? An alternative would be CCV retail given the prices you're looking at anyway and go for a fixed week.
Those were my thoughts too. I planned on a small add on to Poly in the next 2 years( assuming we find a resale contract this year). I am not sold on BCV as I love both BWV and BCV but my family LOVES BCV. They are big pool people. I just know that they want to be on the boardwalk side of the world for F&W so our Poly points will do us no good for that time of year. I am going to work more numbers to show DH the difference in price for the two and let him make the final decision. What is a reasonable price per point that the BWV is going for right now? $95 per point? Off to do some research.....
I have 4 UYs. It's really not been a problem - mostly because - like you - I wanted to have the 11 month advantage at different times of the year at specific resorts...without the fear of having points expire if I need to rebook for some reason because I can't find availability. I use my June UY for my fall trip...Oct UY for Christmas...other 2 are for Spring.
I don't follow the exact price on ROFR as closely as some do so I'll leave that for others. I know that historically BCV has been quite a bit more, BWV has the standard view option that potentially reduces the cost further, that it's easier to find both a BWV contract and a more loaded contract and that BCV has little availability and the prices seem even more out of proportion than normal. Looking at those factors $10 a point difference is about the best you can do but realistically you're likely looking at closer to $20 a point difference, maybe more when you combine all factors. You might also wait and see what happens with the CBR resort though that might be too long of a wait for you. If you travel a specific week then waiting for CBR and getting a fixed week might be a great choice. Otherwise you'll just have to decide how much more you're willing to pay for BCV and how much you're willing to wait/work to find a good contract there with a good UY for your situations OR if you're willing to pay retail prices for it.
AHH, the decision making saga continues.... DH and I sat down yesterday and now he says he really doesn't mind either resort. He said to find the contract that I am most happy with. His thoughts are that he is at Disney so who cares?? My next question is, knowing that we prefer a studio and that we will need it during a week in October for food and wine, where would I have the EASIEST time booking at 11 months and getting what I want? BCV or BWV?
BWV, but only because it's a larger resort and has more studios. Epcot resorts, especially studios in Epcot resorts, are in extremely high demand during F&W. Competition for standard view studios at BWV is fierce but your chances of getting a BW view or garden/pool view are good if you own there.
BWV. Standard or Boardwalk view likely slightly more difficult than BCV but overall clearly much easier at BWV.
