Hi all,
So I own four properties for dvc...I know..crazy.
So it’s all in my name cause I just happened to have the best credit however my family and I split the cost. Everytime we go to Disney, we sometimes have the problem where my family can’t get my discount, even though they pay for half, cause it’s in my name. It’s very annoying. My question is one of my home resorts is half paid off. Is there a way to sell my parents the one resort so that way they can get their own card and perks? I know we asked about getting them a card and I was told it can’t happen until we pay off one. Any suggestions?

I believe if it is paid off you can gift the contract to them. Because it is family you are allowed to gift and the contracts retain their perks. It would be better for them to have ownership and control over their own contract - this way they can book when and what they want, they can get the perks but they will also be responsible for paying the MF's.

I believe once a contract is paid off then you can add names onto the deed or you would be able to gift it to them. The one thing I think you couldn't do is technically "sell" it to them -- if you do it would be considered a resale and then they would lose per

You could always call DVC to find out the exact steps you would need to take.

I'd collect the balance needed to pay off the "half paid off" contract, and pay it off. I'd then put your parents on the deed with yourself. That means no ROFR, in theory.

This may be too simplistic but if you were to take out a loan (at hopefully a better interest rate)from a bank for the remainder of the contract and pay it out at Disney, than as far as they are concerned it is paid in full! Then you can add your parents to the deed and they will get their own blue card.

Im curious too how easy it is to add someone to a deed once it is free and clear title wise. Your question about paying Disney off as long as the new loan wasn’t secured with the DVC title you can make the Deed changes. I just don’t know how easy it is and if they let you get the blue card that easy. Following.

Our DVC salesperson said it was easy and costs about $400.00 because my daughter and I did this. it was a better interest rate if it was in her name alone rather than both our names. So he stated that once she had it paid off through Disney (he even suggested getting a loan at a bank to do it quickly) than we just put my name on the deed and I would then get a blue card, since we are sharing the cost.

Thanks for the first hand experience. I was thinking of adding my parents.

This is some very helpful info. I'm not sure if it's possible, but can you add someone to only 1 of your 4 deeds? Or would they be added to all 4.

I'm not 100% sure but it would make sense to me that you would have to add them 1 deed at a time. Each deed would be separate, especially if they are different home resorts.

My
I'm thinking the same, but I have two deeds and 1 DVC member number.
understanding is your membership number is unique to a unique combination of names on a deed. So I wonder if they would have to be.

Hi guys! So I called and just so anyone knows. If you have 4 deeds. If you pay off one, you can put them on that 1 but you WILL have a new dvc number and card. So you can transfer those points once a year to go with the other 3 deeds. So pretty much I would have two dvc cards. One with the one, and one will the 3. So best to pay them all off and then do so. Very annoying. They should make a card for people who can show and prove they pay half for the dvc and have a separate card for discounts.

Legally, though, they are not DVC owners and therefore not entitled to discounts. Yes, they have helped to pay for it but that is not the same as being the owner. The good news is that once it is all paid, you will be able to have them added as owners.

agreed. its funny cause they actually pay monthly 2/3 and I do 1/3. The reason its in my name is because I had the better credit at the time and because of my mom being disabled we would've had to go through a lot more. If she has the disney credit card, can't she show that and get the discount without actually using the card?

She can show her credit card and get the credit card discount. The DVC discount is different and offered on more things, such as these Not So scary Halloween Party tickets. For DVC discounts, you have to have a blue membership card (direct buyer or pre-restriction resale buyer).

Easy.

I went through LT Transfers and it was simple.

Our DVC salesperson said it was easy and costs about $400.00

Didn’t have to cost that much of it was just one deed.

Mine was 220 for one deed.

If they had been added to the deed when you bought, they would have that. You didn’t, so they have to wait until it’s paid to change the deed.

And you can add people to the deed (when buying) who aren’t on the mortgage. Found that out with our Dvc. I was scared to be on the loan, and thought it was all or nothing. Oops.

Our DVC rep said you couldn't add someone to the deed that wasn't on the mortgage! Maybe we should have called. When we bought (or rather my daughter bought) the interest rate was lower if it was just her name on the mortgage, so we specifically asked about it because we were splitting the cost of the loan. And we were told that I couldn't be on the deed if I wasn't on the mortgage. I'll be pissed if that was wrong because it meant no blue card for me until it is paid in full!
