Question about cruising with points

Yes you may use points for the adults in the stateroom and cash for children. Be aware, however, that the price for children will be a pre-arranged price that is set in the contract between DCL and DVC. They do not allow you to take advantage of cash promotions that the Cruise Line may be featuring.

This fall, I am paying for DH and myseld with points and Matthew with cash. Carol is so right. Matthew cost us $429 for our 7 day cruise. I beleive the fall fantasy rate for a child is much less than that.

But the great thing is... I am only paying $504 (425 + 75) for a 7 day cruise for my family.

Only 88 days to go

We used points for two adults and 1 child. Then we paid cash for another child. JP

Can you use Points for 2 Adults and pay cash for Three
kids ages 15, 10 and 9 ?

Yes you can. However, a family of 5 will have to have a category 4 stateroom. That is the highest category you can book with points and the only one that will hold 5 people. You could consider booking two adjoining lower category staterooms, but you would pay the price of 4 adults ....two adult fares per stateroom are required, plus the additional child.

We had a category 4 stateroom for a 3 day cruise on the Wonder last July all on points.

Just looked into the price for us to go on the 7 day cruise next July. Using points for two adults and paying cash for the kids was ....are you ready for this....2 cat 10 ajoining rooms $3,400.00. As mention above we had to pay for 2 more adults and one child. The cat 4 was points for one adult and one child - cash of $3,700.00 for one adult and 2 kids. And that was before airfare. More than we thought it would be. So which kid do we leave behind?? Only kidding. Holding off the cruise another year.

I have cruised on points twice in the past and have booked another 3 night cruise on the Wonder in late January.

Personally I feel the 3 night cruise on the Wonder is a good return on my points as the weekend points (the Wonder
3 night cruise is Thursday thru Sunday a.m.) for the WDWVC
resorts are all very high over the weekend. Cruising over
the weekend also includes all of my meals and entertainment (aside from the additional activities you may decide to buy). I usually book at VB the night before the cruise as the proximity to Port Canaveral is great and the resort itself is wonderful. Then when I return from the cruise I head to WDW for 5 nights (Sunday through Thursday) and head home on a Friday avoiding the big point charges for weekends.

For me and my guests this has worked wonderfully.

And when cruising I have always booked the inside deluxe stateroom (the one with the 2 baths - I think it's a catagory 10). I prefer not spending points for the verandah or window as I find we spend very little time in the room. It's basically for sleeping and showering and dressing. For this upcoming trip I have booked 2 adjoining deluxe staterooms for the 4 of us. My thinking was that it probably would be nice to have a door we could leave open if we choose to and it would give us a sense of a larger space. I'm sure the verandahs are very nice to have, but if I were to use my points for them then I wouldn't have the additional points to stay at VB before and OKW after.

I guess that's what DVC is all about - making choices that will enhance our vacations in whatever way we see fit.
