Question about Cricut machine?

So I'm not sure how the cricut machine works but someone on the weddings board mentioned it. I need to make about 40 program fans and I wanted to do the Mickey head cut out as the design. So I have a couple questions. Is it possible to do this? Does the Cricut print the text as well or is it just for cutting? And do you think it is worth it to just the programs? I'm kind of into scrapbooking but I haven't really had a chance to really do it because of school. Any advice would be great!! Thanks!

The cricut does not print and cut. There are some machine between $300-400 that do print and cut but I don't think if you main use would be wedding programs that would be cost effective. What size are you looking at. do you want the whole program in the shape of a Mickey head or just a smaller one cut out on the program?

You would want it double sided then. i am not sure that any of the machines that even have print and cut capabilities will give you a good even double sided print and cut. I think you will either need to cut them and the print on them- individually atteching each of them to a piece of paper to print each side or print them first and then hand cut them.

You could concievably print them double sided on a printer and thenusing a large enough cricut (either the create or expression as they have the feature) put the blade in the middle of the proigram and cut it as a centered design. It would take a bit of experimenting to get it to cut at the right size and in the right spot and then you could individually set up each one.

How many programs are you looking at doing? I am not sure it would be worth the expense unless you had a lot to do- if you only have a few making a pattern and hand cutting would be easier and faster. If you had a few hundred iot would probably take you a number of hours but you could do it once you figured out all the specifics.

My sister actually made about 75 of them for my niece's Disney Wedding this past summer. She printed up the program and them made a template and hand-cut the mouse ears (150 total) then glued the programs together with the sticks in them with a Xyron machine. It was a lot of work but they really were beautiful.

Cricut can in fact do what you are asking, but it takes a little money to buy the "stuff' and patience to wait on cricut to do its thing. And you cant have too many words or it will get confused. Best idea is to have it print the front and back and you glue the program pages into it. You can buy paper that is a circle and can be printed on the computer. If the color matches it will be easy to do.

You need...

the Cricut expression
Cricut design studio
Cricut markers
Cricut carts (mickey, obviously, and whatever font you want to use, plus accent essentials (comes with the expression) to get the swirl thing from your example if you want it)
12 x 24 cutting mats (quite a few)
and whatever paper you are using


It would take about 10 minutes to set up and then however long to print and cut each one. All you would have to do is fold it in half and glue in the extra pages.

I would be happy to help you if you decided to go that route. I did something similar for a Christmas gift.

Actually, you COULD do this with the original cricut but you'd need more mats and the largest you could cut the heads would be 5 1/2 inches tall.

I'd suggest printing the program on cardstock using word or publisher or something, then cutting the mickey heads out on the cricut machine. You don't need the markers if you do it this way, and by using the center point feature or just figuring out where to position the blade in a regular setup you could have it cut them all in the right place. Using centerpoint feature or learning the best place to position the paper/blade removes the need to use Design Studio as well.

Therefore, it's conceivable that this COULD be done on a machine that you could get for under $200, not including the mats, blades, paper, and printer ink.

I did this exact thing on my cricut for a friend of mine. I printed them at kinkos and then cut them on my cricut. Took a little while to get the exact spacing figured out but it was easy once I got it done. The biggest "trick" is that you have to flip the paper once you cut it so they line up properly.
