Hello everyone,

I'm pretty new to the DISboards and had a question. I will be getting married in September and am starting to plan our honeymoon. Partially inspired by the honeymoon/road trip report I read on these boards awhile back (sorry I forgot who wrote it), we will be taking a smaller "road trip" to Disneyland, Las Vegas, San Diego and back to Disneyland. Me and my fiancee are annual passholders but I was wondering if anyone here has ever upgraded to concierge on a resort stay. What are the pro's and con's of the concierge and to whom do the advantages apply to most? Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

Concierge can be added when you check in.
Prices to add on are: Paradise Pier $100
Disneyland Hotel $125
Grand California $150

Benefits are concierge services (however, I don't think any of the three hotels offer concierge special check in), and access to the club room, which is basically continential breakfast- snacks and drinks thru the day- lunch snacks, and then dinner appetizers and drinks/cheese, and then dessert.

Pros- easy and already paid for, quick breakfast in the a.m.
Cons- just the added cost.

At the Grand, concierge does have a WOC viewing room *I THINK* (never stayed there, this is just what i recall from other threads).

It benefits families the most, I would say... because if you are a large group in a suite, etc it may actually save money on breakfast/snacks. Since the price is per room, the more people benefitting the better it is costwise.

Also, with conciege you MIGHT get some more special goodies for "just marrieds".

I don't think they have a WOC view room. The DVC villas are facing Paradise Pier. There are some rooms further away from where WOC is, but they wouldn't have that good of view for WOC. We were in the DVC villas with a WOC view, and you really couldn't see the projections. You would be able to see the water spouts, but that is about it.

There is also a terrace on the 6th floor where you can go out and see WOC. You can see the water spouts and hear the show, but cannot see the projections from there.

DH and I have stayed Concierge at PPH. I think this is a better "value" for families if you are looking to break even with the costs in terms of what you get. We certainly did not eat or drink $100 worth in the Concierge lounge per day between the two of us. The link provided above is a good source of information even if the pics are a little older. The layout and spread is still pretty similar. During our recent stay, we had wasabi shrimp, sliders, and chicken flautas served on different nights for the evening appetizers. They also served wine and beer. They will also give you bottled water to take to the parks which was nice on the hot days that we were there. I particularly loved the fruit tarts they served in the evenings and DH loves their macaroons. Breakfast is a continental spread(bagels, fruit, muffins, pastry, cereals, milk, juices, coffee...)Other benefits...hmmm...for PPH, you have a special check in on the 2nd floor lounge(Beachcomber's Lounge) and that is also where the snacks/drinks are served. Jerry, who is usually the concierge there, is very friendly and helpful. I think it's a nice little extra to add onto your stay, but I don't think it's the best option if you are looking for best bang for your buck.

At the Grand, a concierge cast member will meet you at your car and escort you to the concierge registration on the 6th floor (just outside the lounge) :thumbsup2

Can you add concierge at DL when you stay in a Premium View room paying with DVC points?

Can you upgrade to concierge partway through your stay?

I stayed at PPH last November and loved concierge level! It was just the two of us, DBF and myself, and I thought it was worth it. I gave up soda for 2010 so I didn't have any of that, but I think I drank my weight in fruit punch.

We ended up getting a lot of snacks and drinks to bring to the park. We loaded cans of soda and juice boxes into our backpack in the mornings. I think the only time we paid for beverages during our stay was during our table service meals. We also had rice crispy treats, mini pumpkin pies, and chocolate covered strawberries with us all evening at the parks.

They don't encourage you to get your snacks "to go," but they don't discourage it either.

I also loved that they learned our names, where we were from, and what we liked. The staff was wonderful. The movie selection was also a bonus. DBF and I like to have siesta while on vacation. We would get to the park before it opened and leave after it closed, so we took a break from 2-6. We napped and watched Disney movies that we wouldn't normally get to see because they're in the vault.

I say go for it. It's you honeymoon. It makes it a little special!

And best wishes to you and your groom!

Thank you for the help everyone. After reading your opinions and checking out that concierge link, I can't justify spending the extra money on concierge. It does seem like a good idea for larger groups though, and people who are more likely to stay in their hotel for extended periods of time. I'll talk it over with my fiancee and see how she feels about it. Thanks again.
