Question about checking a stroller

For this trip, we will be taking two strollers. One for my DS and one for a friend who we are meeting in Florida. I will gate check my DS's stroller, but I want to check the other stroller as baggage. I haven't done this before. Do I need a bag for this stroller or can I just label it with our information and check it like that? I'm not super worried about this stroller (my son hates it!). Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

My last trip in 2005, I checked my DS's stroller with SWA. We put our address label on it and SWA put it on the beltway. They did not bag it. They did however put our DS's booster seat in a clear bag.

Our stroller has made it through 3 trips on an airplane. This last time we lost a cover to a compartment on the top of the stroller for our glasses, etc.

We now have a new stroller for our newest DS.

If you really dont care about the stroller & are prepared with a backup plan if something got really broken then I wouldnt worry about bagging it. We gate checked ours on our last trip w/o a bag & it suffered some wear & tear & a broken cupholder.

Another thing to note, I dont know which airline you are traveling on, but American has a policy stating that "American is not responsible for damage to infant/child restraint devices and loss/damage of any items attached to the device, whether these items are checked at the ticket counter or the gate. Infant/child restraint devices include, but are not limited to, strollers and car seats."

United has this same policy. We even had our stroller in a travel bag, but had to sign a waiver saying they were not responsible if it was damaged.

Last time we went, we bagged our carseat...what a pain it was! At baggage claim, I can't even tell you how many strollers and carseats we saw with no bag, no covering. Next time, no bag. Just make sure any straps, etc are all closed and tucked in as best as you can. It might suffer some wear and tear, but it'll be fine.
