Question about check in????

I am just curious.. We were there a few weeks ago. I have been reading about people being offered upgrades and other things like location. When we checked in both WL and FR-QT. we were not offered anything. We were not told our location either. WL did say we had courtyard veiw. Just wondering why some are told location and get a choice to change. FR-QT just said you are kind of where you requested. When room was ready.. after 4:00. ... we were given a room not where we requested or I thought paid for..If the CM would of given us any info on room location I would of turned the room down. thankss....corvair
 
...that when I am checking in, I politely ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available. I did this when I was checking in at the Dolphin (Nov 2001) and they were more than happy to accomodate me!!! Instead of getting the std room as originally paid for (which overlooked the parking lot!) we got fifth floor rooms facing the Boardwalk with a distant view of Epcot in the background!! I think it is a hit-or-miss type of thing. I guess it depends upon the CM, the time of day you are checking in, and the amount of guests staying at that particular resort. On the other hand, when we stayed at DxL, we had driven from NJ and we didn't arrive until almost 3 in the afternoon. Unfortunately, requests are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis, so our request of Bldg #14 was not available. It didn't deter from us enjoying the resort, though, so, we just made the best of it....:D

Free upgrades are luck of the draw.

You should get the view you paid for though. At POFQ I thought they had standard view and water view. Which view did you pay for? Other then that they do not have to put you in a particular building or on a certain floor.
 
I was not really looking for an up grade. We did pay for waterveiw at FR-QT. We did have a waterveiw from the very far side. I guess if I would have known at check in where we were, I would of just rather been standard room for the same price as water. They would not even say where we were located. We were in buildin 5, in the far back end. We wanted closer to the pool which I did request. Just wondering why some are told at check in where they are located and given a choice of room location. I guess it is just luck of the draw and CMs. thanks,,,,,corvair

Our experiance has been that if the room is ready when we check in then usually they do pull out a map of the resort and circle where our room is and write the room number on the map.

We have also been given a choice where they will say "right now we have these two rooms avaiable. Which one would you like?". This does not happen often though and is something else that I consider luck of the draw.

But, if our room is not ready when we check in we usually get a little card with a number written on it with instructions to call that number after "x" time to get our room number. In these situations we are not told where our room is located. I think it is because they do not know.
