I've never been on a cruise before. If I put my phone in airplane mode, will I still be able to use my camera/alarm without accidentally getting any charges? I want to stay disconnected but still have the convenience of my cell camera. Thanks!

I do this. I put my iphone in airplane mode then switch wifi back on. Then I can insure no data charges! It hasn't occured yet.

Yes!! Just keep it on airplane mode. Camera and alarm will work with no charges. Download the DCL Navigator app to see scheduled happenings while on board. It is free and only works when on board the ship. Have fun!

Airplane mode is the magic spell to avoid any data charges. Period.

If you decide to use their free 50MB of wifi, or purchase wifi packages, then it gets a lot more complicated (a lot of settings to check). Unless you're comfortable with finding all things that use wifi data, just stop by the wifi desk on the ship, they've always seemed VERY knowledgeable in making sure your device is set to use only the wifi you want, and not sneak in other wifi uses you don't want (for example, syncing photos or updating apps).

But don't worry, your phone won't "sign up" for the wifi package unless you take steps to approve it. If all you need is photos, alarm, and the onboard DCL app, just pick airplane mode.

On some phones... you can still turn on the wifi to bypass the airplane mode.

SIM card removal will guarantee no roaming charges.
