I have been reading the reviews and apparently there is an issue with bird poop on Parrot Cay. If there is poop, there must be birds. I have a serious bird phobia. I wanted to request staying in Jamaica but if I have to pass through something where birds will be everywhere, that won't be pleasant for me. I want to get to the food court without freaking out! Not a pretty sight! Can someone who has stayed at this resort please shed some light on the bird situation please. Also, which "island" is going to be the most convenient for my parents who will not want to walk as far for food. I was thinking Martinique or Trididad North for them. Any opinions? Thanks in advance! :bounce:

I've stayed there at least 7 or 8 times and have never noticed any problems with birds or bird poop.

Our first stay at CBR (May) there were no birds, other than the parrots in their cages, on Parrot Cay.
The second trip (January) there had to be thousands of birds on the island and there was poop all over the bridges and walkways. It had been cleaned but there was a lot of stains. As evening approached thousands more birds would fly in and perch in the trees. The sound of all the birds was extrememly loud. There didn't seem to be any problem with them flying around the people but I wouldn't cross the island even with a hat! Not out of fear of them, just the falling poop.
I have visted a few more times and walked around the resort and the island has been very quiet except for two protective birds that would dive bomb you if you got close to a certain area.
If you have a bird phobia you can still stay at CBR and just avoid the island if it happens to be inundated at the time.

Trinidad North and Martinique are preferred locations costing extra nightly.

If people are feeding the birds then you will see a lot of them. Also keep in mind anywhere there is food you will see birds. There is a really bad spot in MK too.

The parrotts are gone so there is no extra bird poop.

However, I am not sure that there is anyplace at Disney you aren't going to run into birds. They go where the "free" food is and it is everywhere there. Good luck.

We just got back last week from a three night stay there. We stayed in building 45 Jamaica. The only time I saw birds was at the tables outside by the pool. They seemed to hang out there alot (I guess people feed them alot there  ). I hope you have a great time. :)

If you have a bird "phobia" I would definately think twice about crossing the bridge from Jamaica to the food court at dusk. My son and I were on Parrot Cay at dusk and I couldn't believe the bird commotion. The birds were flying in to roost and the noise was incredible. It was like a science fiction movie. We were able to imagine what a rain forest might be like. We were laughing but you just had to experience it. We covered our heads and ran. You could hear the "pixie poop" hitting the lush palm leaves. It's amazing we didn't get hit.

so, it's possible - if this still exists ( how could they eliminate it?) that there will be many birds at dusk.

There were always birds around the bar area. They were pretty bold hanging out at the tables waiting for a handout ( which we didn't encourage ).

If the phobia is serious - you may reconsider this. However, you don't need to cross on the island - you could walk around the lake - but you'll know the birds are still around.

Thanks so much for your great advice. My phobia is not serious enough for me to avoid places where birds are, I just can't handle them flying around my head or at my feet. Basically I can't be too close and forget about being in an enclosed space. I was visiting my uncle when his cat brought in a very much alive blue bird. I hid in the pantry. If the birds are in the trees and stay away from me fine, but if they are going to be swarming (Do birds swarm?) I might rethink my location. Heck, I might not even get a choice about where they put me. I shouldn't be worried yet!

I think you will be fine with the birds at CBR. I have been many many times and never had a problem with them.

Go and judge for yourself. I am sure if you have a problem the CM's would be able to move you.

Heh I second this and at Wilderness Lodge the birds would jump up to our table outside and try to get food.

We have a party of 11 going April 13- April 20, 8 adults and 3 children. We are stearing towards Caribbean Beach Resort but are also considering All Star Movie or Pop Century. Any suggestions? Unhappy or happy people? :flower:

Welcome to the DIS. I suggest reading the CBR FAQ's listed below. You will see there are lots of happy people that have stayed at CBR.
