Question about car battery

I left my lights on all night so battery was dead this morning. Got a jump start. Then went out to car an hour later and wouldn't start. Rapid clicking noise and had to get it jumped again. I call store seeing about new battery and he said it might just need to be charged. He said take it out and bring it down and they will charge it...not that I have any idea how to remove the car battery, but why would I do that? Doesn't the battery charge while you drive it around?

Technically it should charge up if you drive it awhile. We just had a similar problem, and it turned out the battery just couldn't hold a charge anymore. We ended up with a new battery.

Id have a quick diagnostic on the alternator just in case. If I am not mistaken, isn't that what recharges the battery while driving? Back in 2006, I went through 2 batteries in a couple of weeks before the "intelligent folks" at Saturn tested the alternator and discovered it was faulty.

When you got the first jump start did you drive your car around for a while afterwards? According to DH you should drive at least 30 minutes after a jump to get enough charge in the battery to hold it for your next start up.

Sounds as the previous poster stated, it didn't charge long enough. Might be time to invest in a battery charger for the home.
