Question about caller ID

I haven't had caller ID in ages, but I was thinking about getting it again. The last time I had it, when someone called from a cell phone, all you saw was the name of the cell phone company (e.g., Verizon, Cingular, etc.). Has this changed? I was just thinking that many of the non-telemarketer calls I get are from cell phones, so it wouldn't do much good if it still works that way.

I am not sure about everyone else's caller ID but when my children call from their cell phones.. the cell phone number shows on my caller ID on my phone and on the caller ID as well...

It depends. I get a fair share of cell calls on my caller ID. Some come up as the name of the person calling, some come up as "cellular call", and some come up as the name of the state their cell phone is from ("Virginia Call" for instance) But mine all list the number along with whatever the "name" says.

Kermit,
Whenever either my DH, DD, or myself phones home from our cell phone - the Caller ID will list the phone number, but not our name.

Recently our Privacy ID will make us identify ourselves and whoever answers the phone has to accept the call.

When my wife calls home on her cell phone (Alltel), our caller ID box identifies the call as "New Phila" which I assume is a reference to New Philadephia, Ohio. We don't live anywhere near New Philly, so I don't know what to make of this misinformation.

I believe that my cell phone (Verizon) IDs properly.

We have the same problem, however. It's hard to tell telemarketers from cell phone calls. I just refuse to answer the phone unless the person on the other end talks to my answering machine.

On our last called ID box in Illinois the display would read cellular call and the phone #

For some of our calls from cell phones, our Caller Id lists the last name and the phone number. I think it might depend on the cell phone provider.

I have verzion and my name and call num. show up on friends caller id when i call also when i used calling card it showed orgin of calling card company.

My son's number comes up......but my daughter's comes up as out of area. She is away at school and I think that it bouncing off different companies' satellites causes that.

I have never had one that comes up just saying cellular phone or a companies name ........odd.

I have verizon and my caller id say "wireless caller" and the number, sometime"pennsylvania" and the number depepnding on the caller's service.

When me or DH call home the caller ID shows our last name and the number. When other cell callers call, it usually says Wireless Caller and the number, or the city name and the phone number.

My son, in Houston, and my husband, here, both have verizon cell phones. When they call me I see their cell phone numbers with the words "cellular call" beneath the numbers.

Mine usually shows cell call and the number. I don't answer if I don't recognize it. I'll let the machine pick it up first.

Our cellphones come up as "Pennsylvania" and the number. Telemarkers usually come up "outside call". One strange thing recently happened. My brother's calls from work about 20 miles away come up as "outside call" but a business associate called from CT and her full name and phone # came up. I made some calls from WDW last month with a Sam's Phone Card and they came up CO or GA! I guess that's where the 800# relayed to.

PA recently started a "do not call" list to protect from telemarketers. It has worked great! No more calls during dinner!

Debbie I'd say yes you calling card calls are due to orgin of Calling card company I used SAm's one to and it showed up Atlanta, GA

I would recomend Caller ID with "Privacy Manager". If you get a call that is "unknown" or "private", your phone doesn't even ring.
The caller gets a greeting saying that there number is unknown, so they have to state there name or business.
If they don't identify themselves, or hang up, your phone doesn't even ring.
If they identify themselves, you have 3 choices......
1.accept the call
2.Play the sales call refusal
3.Let your answering machine answer it.

The cost for Privacy Manager is around $4-$5 a month. We have had it with Caller ID for 3 years, and we hardly get "ANY" telemarketers now.

My caller ID shows the number and the location of where the cellphone originates from. EX 244-4444 Fort Walton Beach...is what would show on my caller ID if a friend called me. (That's a made up number of course. )
