So I know that the special California resident tickets are not available for upgrades, but what happens to them if you just let them expire? Are they just gone forever then?
Yeah, that’s what I was wondering. I’ve never heard of tickets that just completely lose value before. I’ll have to ask about it at the ticket booths when I’m there in a couple weeks.Once expired, they *should* be able to be used as credit towards other ticket media (more expensive ones). The value doesn't go away...Yeah, it's weird, they don't let you upgrade them while they are still valid, but as mentioned, the value doesn't go away
Have you tried clicking the upgrade button? I also have one day left on a CA 3-day, but if I click the button I see a message that says "entitlement no longer available for upgrade."Have you checked the app? I have one day left of the California resident 3 day tix and thought we couldn’t upgrade them to a magic key. Now the app is telling me that I can upgrade the value of the eligible tickets. This notice is under the tickets and passes section of the app. So does that mean only the value of one day can be used towards a magic key or the full 3 day value? I need to contact customer service.
I haven’t used any of the days on my ticket yet and there’s no upgrade button for me at all. I would assume that it doesn’t let you complete the upgrade, even if it shows it as an option.Have you checked the app? Interesting. Yes have tried clicking on the button. It goes to another page with more information about upgrading, but then at the bottom it says "there is a problem and to call customer service". I have a one day ticket also and those don't have the upgrade copy on them (probably because it has no reservation). I will call and see what I can find out. I'm probably not going to get a magic key right now anyways. I would have gotten one if I wouldn't have bought the 3 day ticket so feel a bit burned by that transaction and the timing of the announcement of the magic keys.Have you tried clicking the upgrade button? I also feel so burned by that. First time ever I feel abused by Disney. Oh well, money lostI would have gotten one if I wouldn't have bought the 3 day ticket so feel a bit burned by that transaction and the timing of the announcement of the magic keys.
That is what I’m wondering, but haven’t really gotten confirmation if that’s possible to do. I actually just want to let my tickets expire and then upgrade them to regular tickets for my in-laws to use. Then I can just buy magic keys to use for our trip coming up in a couple weeks. So, theoretically you could let a (wholly unused) resident ticket expire, use the value to purchase a 'regular' ticket, then upgrade that ticket to a MK?
IIRC a partial ticket of any kind has no cash value after the 13 days expires, right? 'Use it or lose it'? I know there are 'special rules' for the tickets in effect at the time of the closure.
You are right. Partially used ticket is worth nothing after it expires. Fully unused expired ticket retains the value you paid for it.So, theoretically you could let a (wholly unused) resident ticket expire, use the value to purchase a 'regular' ticket, then upgrade that ticket to a MK?

Also feeling very annoyed that they released magic keys right after the California resident offer. There’s no way they didn’t do that on purpose.
But surely when they released the California resident 3 day tickets they knew that they would soon be releasing some sort of annual pass. And they chose to not allow those tickets to be upgraded to a magic key.I don’t think they did It on purpose. This magic key pass doesn’t sound like the membership program they were originally going for.

For Disney it technically is the end of their fiscal year. They are on an October-September year.Nope, I don't think they expected to release an AP program. Remember, there was all the talk about a "membership program" and that it wasn't coming until the end of 2021. August 2021 isn't the end of 2021. It isn't even in the last quarter of 2021.
I think Disney realized they needed to get more people in the parks to make the money, scrapped the membership program and scrambled to do this AP program and threw this together in a week or two.
I think you’re right. But Disney could have chosen to allow people to upgrade their three-day tickets to an AP as a gesture of goodwill. In the end it’s on me because I knew the terms of the ticket. But I bought them thinking an AP would not be available until the end of the year. If I had any inkling that Disney would have announced the new APs just a few weeks later I never would have bought the CA ticket. It was a cash grab pure and simple.Nope, I don't think they expected to release an AP program. Could be, but as someone above me said, they could have at least allowed people to upgrade their CA tickets to the magic key.Nope, I don't think they expected to release an AP program. This is the workaround that Disney is allowing with these tickets -- see Gothic Rosie on Instagram for more details. So, theoretically you could let a (wholly unused) resident ticket expire, use the value to purchase a 'regular' ticket, then upgrade that ticket to a MK?...
