Question about cabin upgrades

Hi -

This is our first time cruising and I have a question on how cabin upgrades work. I am booked in connecting cat 10 cabins and by some stroke of luck I was able to get 5022/5024 thru DVC on part points, part cash only last week for Aug 4. I was obviously very happy with these cabins ... I found out the scoop on these "secret porthole" cabins right here on these awesome boards !

So here's my question ... since we are in a cat 10, could we possibly get bumped up to a 9 or 8 since these are considered a better catagory ...but perhaps be relocated to deck 1 or 2 ?? Do you all think deck 5 in these cabins is a much better location than the cat 8 or 9's on deck 1 or 2 that we would not want to be upgraded...unless it is to a cat 5 or 4 ? Do you have the option to not be upgraded at all ? I am new to this and am not sure how this works. Also, is it less likely that we will be upgraded at all since we are in connecting cabins ?

As nice as the Secret Porthole Rooms (SPR's) are, I'd still take an upgrade to a Category 9 even though it would mean moving to Deck 2. If it were on Deck 1, though, I'd refuse the upgrade because they have two very small portholes in those rooms rather than the single, very large porthole found in all other porthole rooms. If they were to upgrade you to a Category 8 or higher, I'd accept it in a heartbeat.

Dave is correct as usual. But remember that upgrades are RARELY offered before you recieve your documents. Upgrades at the port do happen, but are charged. The discount is significant, but the upgrade is not free. Also remember that you have adjoining rooms and that option most probably would not be available for the few upgrades available at the port.
