What if you bring your own bottle(s) of wine onboard ... can you take them to the dining room to have with dinner? Is there a corking fee? If so, how much?

I was just reading in my new Passporter that a cruiser had brought her own bottles of wine onboard and uncorked them herself before going to the dining room. She said that her servers took the bottle, chilled it and served it during dinner and no corkage fee.

The general rule seems to be that they are supposed to charge a fee if you bring your own bottle and NOT charge if you only bring your own glass of wine.

That said, actually charging seems to be hit or miss. Some people get charged and others don't. It might depend on your server and whether they want to charge or not. Too lazy to ring it up? Doing the guest a favor in hopes of a better tip?? Who knows!

The idea of having to lug bottles with me made me decide to just buy on board.
I am amazed at the folks on this board who lug cases of soda, water, and coffee on board. Sure not worth it to me, I'm on vacation, trying new and different things and RELAXING.

Even if you uncork your wine and bring it with you, they still do charge you the $15.

I brought two bottles of Bailey's Irish Cream on board.

The night of the Cozumel Sail away, I "uncorked" it my self up on deck.

It was also Xmas eve.

It was easy to carry and served about 12 people.

One Disney Cruise ...................... $6,000

Two Bottles of bailey....................... $50

Seeing your previously
sedate friends twirl aroung like
xmas ornaments......................... Priceless.

True. That's because the corkage fee is not really the charge for pulling the cork; it's the charge to make up for the lost profit on wine sales. For very expensive wine, you might save some money, even with the corkage fee. But for typical mid-priced wines, the corkage fee would more-or-less eliminate any savings from bringing your own wine.

Also, if you bring your own, you're limited to what you brought. In the dining rooms, I'd rather pair a wine from the wine list with the dinner I'm ordering.

I understand that the corkage fee is $15 + 15% automatic gratuity = $17.25.

You might want to bring wine and a corkscrew onboard so that you can drink some wine in your stateroom. There's an electric cooler in each stateroom. It chills white wine nicely. You can borrow wine glasses from a bar, or you can bring your own. And there's no corkage fee in your stateroom.

We brought wine on board for each of our three cruises. Although we usually purchase the wine package for dinner, we spend a lot of time on our verandah in the late evening enjoying what we brought on board with us.

On our last trip, we bought a small rolling transporter for our wine. That worked perfectly, and I recommend investing in one if you routinely cruise and bring your own wine. It was just like a little rolling suitcase.

We brought a bottle of Champagne on board, and brought it to Lumiere's for formal night. Our server didn't charge us the $15 corking fee. Don't know why. It did reflect in his tip (I expected to pay it, and did, one way or another...). The Champagne we brought was not offered on board, and was a very good one that was given to me from some friends to celebrate on board with. The ship does indeed have an adequate selection on board, though not extensive, IMHO (and even their reserve list was not very extensive), so, if you are looking for a nice wine and don't require a wine list that is a book, you will be very pleased with their selection.
