Question about braces...

DS has had 2 broken wires today Is this something that happens frequently? Orthodontist off today He wasn't eating, we were at the mall

Not that frequently. I has happened a time or two, especially right after they are adjusted.

I've had it happen a couple times to my DS. Do you have the wax to cover up the irritating areas with? If it's really bad (and we can't get to the orthodontist) we will clip the wire ourselves (because it was the wire towards the end/back of his mouth).

Would Tylenol help tonight?

No pain. He clipped them off himself so they wouldn't be hanging loose in his mouth They've only been on 2 weeks!

I think it happens at least once during the course of treatment. DD had it happen to her within the first couple of weeks, too.

My DS chipped his retainer after having it for ONLY 3 DAYS!! ughh!! Luckily it wasn't beyond repair & the dr. just filed it down.

My DS had a collision with another kid during a bastketball game and was not wearing a mouth gaurd-he had broken wires and the brackets were imbedded in the other kids head! Both had to leave the game because they were bleeding. It was friday night and we could not get into the the ortho til WEDNESDAY. Ugh, what a mess-but he survived and now has lovely straight teeth-he also learned to wear the mouth gaurd.
