question about booking and canceling

We are in ROFR at BCV, and the contract includes some banked points that will expire on 3/31/12. Since we won't get the points in our account until some point in April, we will be at or near the 11 month mark for their expiration. I know BCV is very hard in the fall, and we are hoping we get really lucky and can find something in Oct/Nov/Dec, but realistically I am guess that's not going to happen. We could stay somewhere else, I'm sure we'd find something if we're flexible, but here is my question:
We don't want to lose the banked points. So, the moment I get them, can I book something at BCV 11 months out (presumably) next March and then waitlist for other weeks in the fall? Can you waitlist for dates before an existing reservation? Is there any downside to doing it this way, i.e. can you lose points by canceling?
I just want to book something that is available, since I don't want to lose the points, but don't want to shut out the option of a fall trip if we can find availability..

I hope this question makes sense....?!

Once you get the point you will have your banked point from your April 2010UY and current points from April 2011UY. You can use the banked points for stay up to march 31st or a combination of banked and current. Next fall you could reserve or wait list with your current 11UY points if there are any left from a March trip. You can wait list and have a reservation at the same time.....as long as there are point to cover what you are trying to do. As far as canceling, any cancellation prior to 31 days your points go back to their same status, with in 31 days the points go into a holding account which are subject to different rules. Hope this helps...
