Question about booking 2011 Cruise

Hello everyone.
I just joined the DVC on Sunday so I'm still new and trying to figure all of this out. Sorry if it's a stupid question.

I have an august use year. We were given all of our 2009 points and we banked them. So right now I have no points.

I want to book a cruise for March 2011 using points (since we have to use the banked ones anyway).

Can I call and book now, since I will have points when we're traveling or can I not book unless I have points at that moment and therefor would have to borrow?

I suppose I could just wait till August but I'm worried it'll sell out if it hasn't already.

Sorry if this is confusing. I appreciate your help in advance!

Your 2010 points (banked and current) expire July 31, 2011. Since you are booking a March, 2011 cruise, you are within your current use year (and you can actually borrow points from 2011 if you needed extra points). But, do call NOW because there are a limited number of staterooms that can be booked on points, so the earlier you call, the better. Good luck!

If there are no staterooms for points, you could rent out the points you would otherwise use and book with cash. You'll find that you'll have some cash left over that way, as the cruise costs less than the $10/point you can usually get renting.
