Question about Bed Size

I am currently researching a trip for DLP for 2023 (fall).

When I look at the booking options, I noticed that a lot of rooms are "double" beds. What are double beds in Europe? It's been a while since I've traveled internationally, but the last double bed I was in was in Washington DC and that was the size of a full and too small for two small adults to sleep in without hitting each other with elbows, lol.

I haven't narrowed down the resort yet (the booking tool is down right now) but we would be looking at the official DLP hotels, rather than the partner hotels.

Thanks!

What we call a king or queen size, is different in the US. According to Google:
European King size = 160 x 200cm, Grand king 180 x 200 cm.
American Californian king size = 183 x 213 cm, King = 193 x 203cm.
(1 cm = 0.4 inch)
I did stay in regular and in concierge in New Port Bay, I didn't notice a different size in the beds.
I wrote this post in November last year. Some more googling leads me to believe that it is either 140cm or 160cm for a double.

Most likely 160 in hotels but I imagine you can find 140cm in remote areas or "old" small hotels.

At home we have a bed that is equivalent to an American Queen size bed (although confusingly it's called a King in the UK). The standard beds in DLP hotels are the same length, but slightly narrower than our bed at home - it's certainly possible for two standard sized adults to sleep side by side, but if like us you're used to something with a touch more room and there's two "doubles" in the room you may be more comfortable taking one bed each (as we did).

However depending upon the hotel, there are a handful of rooms that have a king-size bed available in them (this is American King size as well - e.g. much bigger than our home bed). On a few previous trips, we've e-mailed the front desk (this was for both the Disneyland Hotel and the Hotel New York in different years) about a week beforehand and asked if it was possible to be allocated one of these rooms and they confirmed we could have one and it didn't cost us any extra. Now admittedly this was pre-Covid and there's a chance they don't do this any more (or maybe it's a payable upgrade now) but it's worth asking. Note also that when we stayed at the Sequoia Lodge, they told us that the only rooms they had with a king-size bed were wheelchair accessible ones (which we were reluctant to take in case it was denying someone who needed that room a lot more), so it might be that not all the hotels can do this.

It is 2 single beds pushed together and made up with double size sheets & blankets ( Or Duvet )

They do Divide ..... if you are active

It makes it easier for cleaning and moving beds

Thanks, that will work! :D

The choice of 2 doubles or 1 large double bed was a bookable option for our upcoming trip to the Hotel New York this year. From memory the price was the same, but there do seem to be less large doubles as depending on the dates we picked the option wasn't always there.

OK, that might be how they’re doing it now rather than relying you on asking at check in (or e-mailing beforehand) and hoping there’s a king bed available - which makes a lot more sense.

I think less than 10% of rooms were set up with a king so it doesn’t surprise me that you might not have seen it available on some dates.
