Question about banking points before making a reservation

Tomorrow is my 11 month window to book for my trip next Nov/Dec. I am trying to wrap my brain around all of this so that I am ready to go tomorrow morning.
I have a Dec UY with 50 points already banked from 2008, and all of the 2009points are there as well.
The 50 banked points have to be used by Nov 30, 2010 correct? The 2009 points need to be used by then as well but I can bank those.
So I want to book a 1 BDR, I use the 2008 banked points first, for the 2 nights in Nov I'll use a total of 56 pts. Now 6 of those points will come from the 2009 points, so do I bank all 50 of my 2009 points or should I just bank 44of my 2009 points? I will then use the banked 2009 points and my 2010 points to book the remainder of the week.
If I understand from reading other posts the banking needs to be done before I book, it that right?

It sounds like you only should bank 44 points, since you need to use 6 of the 2009 points before Dec. 1. The CMs at Member Services should be able to guide you, if you tell them what you want to do.

Those additional points will be from your 2009 use year, so if your trip falls before 11/30/10, you do not need to bank any 2009 points to use them for the trip. Instead, you need to bank all the REST of your 2009 points before your banking deadline so you can use them to book the remainder of your trip that falls within your 2010 use year. You can actually do it all at once though. Book your trip at the 11 month window using banked '08 and current '09 points for the first days, and then bank your remaining '09 points and have them book the remainder of your 12/10 trip using '09 points left over and any '10 points needed.
