I should know this, we've been members since 1992, but I don't think I've had this situation before.

I currently have a reservation using this years points (2016) for a 6 night stay this summer. We are definitely keeping this reservation. I am thinking of adding on another 3 days the following week via a wait list, but would need to borrow about 30 points from 2017 if it comes through.

Here's the question.. There is a possibility we may not keep this 3 day reservation. I know that if I cancel the reservation which was made with borrowed points, they will not go back to the use year they were borrowed from. If I do cancel the short reservation, made with some borrowed points, can member services re-allocate the points for my existing 6 night stay reservation and put the borrowed points against that reservation so I can keep the points in this year's account. Or would I have to cancel the original 6 night reservation and set it up so the borrowed points are used first. Hope this makes sense..

Yes. If the first CM can't do it, ask for a supervisor. I have done it many times.

Just don't forget to cancel the short stay more than 30 days out or you will have holding points.

One potential glitch...if the 6-night reservation was made with home resort advantage (i.e., between 11 and 7 months out), they won't reallocate unless there's current availability (and even then some CMs will insist on cancelling and rebooking)...so if you're using home resort advantage points for that six-night reservation you may run into an issue (and that may be resolvable)...if you booked at 7 months or less out, tho, you should be fine...good luck!

The 6 night reservation is at our home resort, but it was made only 4 months out. So hopefully we'll be good.

I think when someone cancels a reservation and ends up with borrowed points, MS will reallocate those into a current reservation, even if it was made during home resort priority, as long as the borrowed points are the same home resort as the original reservation.

When the points that were borrowed are a different resort, then there must be availability to reallocate points. For example, if I book with my BWV points at 11 months, then add another reservation later that needs borrowed BWV points and cancel it, MS will be able to swap out the borrowed for current. I have done this before without any issue. Now, if I book with my VGF points at 11 months, and then book another trip with borrowed BWV points and cancel that, MS won't put those into the VGF reservation unless there is still availability.
