Question about Banked Points

Hello

I have to bank my points by the end of September because I have a February use year. We would like to come down in April 2024. Do I have to wait until Feburary 1st to make a reservation with the banked points? If I use these banked points for that reservation, can I modify that reservation to be shorter or longer? Where do those banked points go if i modify? Do they go back into the banked point category?

MS has given me conflicting information about these questions. I don't want to screw it up and lose points because of an error.

You can bank now and book for April 2024. The reservation will use banked points first. If you cancel prior to 31 days from the check-in date, all points get returned to your account and to their prior category. Banked points go back to their banked status and need to be used prior to Jan 31, 2025.

You could also book for April 2024 with 2024 UY points and bank closer to Sept 30. After that, you can reallocate banked points and have the Feb 2024 UY points you used returned to the 2024 UY.

You can modify because everything is going based on the dates of trip. You never have to wait to the beginning of a UY to do anything because you just figure out what is needed.

The only piece is that to use points from the UY prior to the trio, you must bank them in order to have them there when booking. But, as mentioned, if you bank after the booking, it can be amended later.

The key is you never want to borrow points if you didn’t yet bank because those won’t be returned. For example, if didn’t bank and went to book the trip right now, it would only show you your 2024 points available and ask if you wanted to bank 2023 or borrow 2025 if you didn’t have enough.
