Hi, I'm new to this thread I just had a question. My family (Me, Husband, and 2 year old) will be taking a trip to Disneyworld in May. I would like to make the trip as enjoyable for my son as I can. I am planning on taking him to all the parks and see all the baby stuff the first two days, and then I would like my husband and I to go back and ride the bigger rides on the next two days. I was thinking of getting a babysitter for those 2 days so that my husband and I can have some alone time and go on the rides together. Would you suggest this or not? I was wanting to try the KinderCare in Disney, which is not guaranteed they would have a spot when we go, or the Sunshine Sitters, which can come to my hotel and watch my son. I also want to stay in a hotel that really caters to young kids, because I want him to have fun with the sitter, and not be stuck in the hotel all day. Any suggestions on good kid-friendly hotels, or sitters? Thanks!

Judy

bumpity bump bump in hopes that someone can help you.

Regarding the hotel, I have heard great things about Holiday Inn Family Suites (on 536 across form the Marriott World Center). I read somewhere this hotel was voted the best family-oriented hotel the last three years by some huge travel guide organization. (Sorry to be vauge. . . I just do not recall). We are considering it for our next trip.

For the sitters, I have read both good and bad reports and I have no personal experience with them.

HTH.

I have been looking up more on sitters, and every forum or web page or anything that I've seen about the sitters in Disney has been great. What bad things have you heard?

Thanks for the hotel advice, and if I wasn't staying in a Disney resort, I would definatley consider the Holiday Inn Family Suites!

I don't have any personal experience (yet) for sitters since we'll be using one at WDW for the first time during our November trip, but in all of my research I've heard RAVE reviews for Fairy Godmother babysitting service. They are mostly moms and grandmas, with some college students studying things like elementary ed or childhood development. I don't have the phone number handy, but if you check out
http://allearsnet.com/pl/childfaq.htm
it's listed there (along with other suggestions).
Pretty much most of the onsite resorts (even the vaue ones) have playgrounds, kidie pools, etc., to play in.

Peanutzmom,

I've heard the same about fairy godmothers. I think I will be using them. I've also heard of the all day Kindercare that my son can stay at in the facility. I might try that if they have any openings.

BTW....I see that your a military wife? What branch is your husband in? My husband is leaving for the Coast Guard in October. Any suggestions????

We used this service for our first trip to Disney in 2000. Our kids were aged 6,8,9,12. Vivian came to the room with games and entertained the kids. Because there were four, our two and our friend's two, she would not take them out of the room. No playground. But they still talk about her and how nice she was. It was a bit pricey but we adults got to go to The Fulton Crabhouse and Pleasure Island so it was worth it!

We just returned from a stay at WDW, and used Fairy Godmothers, based primarily on info we had from this site. Julianne (I believe) was our sitter - an 18-yr old. While we'd requested "Vera" (based on forum feedback) and were told that we'd probably get her, we were not upset at all to have Julianne. We'd heard of her on this forum (her mother has been an employee for quite some time), and she was a very polite young lady, and clearly capable of handling our 2.5 and 6-yr old girls.

The only negative was that both times that I spoke to the woman who (I believe) owns "Fairy Godmothers" she was on a cell phone, and I think I only had half of her attention as she was driving. When I booked with her, she quoted the rates, and I asked about the higher late-night rates. She explained that those only applied if your sitting didn't START until late in the evening, and that once you started at a rate, you just paid that rate until you were through with the sitter for the evening. I said "OK, I just wanted to check since we're planning to spend the evening at Pleasure Island after our 6:20 dinner". I thought it was strange that she never asked how LONG we'd need the sitter, but she DID say "you just pay at that rate until you're through with the sitter".

Well, when Julianne came to the room, I did tell her it will probably be a late night since we're going to Pleasure Island. She said that was fine, but clearly said also been given other (wrong) info from the owner. Because at 12:15 (a.m.) Julianne called to ask when we were coming back - that she had class the next morning, and was worried about driving home so late at night. We then learned that she had been told that we'd be back to the room around 9:30pm!! So we didn't linger long, and hustled back to our room, though it took awile to get back to the Beach Club Villas. We tipped her well and all, but it turned a great evening out into something that left us feeling guilty. :(

Looking back on it, I'm not sure I'd have done anything different. Now that I know, though, I'm going to be VERY CLEAR when we schedule the service that we'll be out until the early moning. I thought I'd made it clear that it was going to be a long night (Pleasure Island after dinner, worried about "late night charges", etc), but I obviously wasn't clear ENOUGH. Where she ever got that we'd be back by 9:30pm, though, I don't know. That's where I think the whole "talking on the cell phone while driving" came into play. I suspect she got me confused with someone else by the time everything was written down.

So to make a long story short (sorry, it's too late for that, isn't it?), just be VERY CLEAR on how long you intend to need a sitter - both at the time of the "booking" and when the sitter arrives. Lesson learned on OUR part!

Has anyone used the Kid's Nite Out people that Disney has a contract with. They are pricey but I don't know the fairy godmothers rates.

We will be there with kidless friends in May and I'd love to go out to PI or jellyrolls.
