Ok, I live in a neightborhood that has an association. Today, my dog got out of the house and was running around and my neighbor reported it to the security. They told me they have to report it to the office on Monday. Now, this neighbor has caused me alot of problems, but I have never reported anything because I'm not the type that likes to start anything. This is the second time he has reported my dog getting out. I told the security guard the first time that I was sorry and that my autistic child opened the door and the dog got out. He said it was ok, but now the other security guard is saying they have to report it. I'm a little scared about what will happen. I rent my place here and don't want to leave until my lease is up in March. What can they do to me? I haven't been given a written warning yet, so I am thinking that is what I will get this time but my mind is running wild and I'm just not sure. Has anyone had any experience with this, or have any advise?
BTW- I told the guard that I would take the dog someplace by Monday, and so tonight, DH took him to stay with my inlaws until we move because they have a fenced in back yard and love animals anyway.

Since you've moved the dog you should be fine. The problem has been solved. Taking the initiative should squelch any action they would take.

What they can do is limited by the association bylaws, and that will vary greatly, and will vary even with regard to the fact that you're a renter. You've done the best you can do to address the situation now, having removed the dog from the associations purview of concern. It would be pointless for the association to do anything else.

I am SO glad we don't live somewhere with at HOA. There is always one crab in the bunch that has to spend their life making others miserable. One of my Dad's neighbors was in the middle of putting in a retaining wall and fell at work and broke his back. He was in the hospital for quite a while and obviously couldn't do the work so the bricks were in his driveway. Well, the crabby neighbor just had to report him and they were going to fine him. They didn't care what had happened to him, they just wanted the "mess" cleaned up (which were a couple pallets of bricks, neatly stacked). We don't have a HOA and everyone keeps their lawn up, paints their houses as needed, pulls in their garbage cans in a timely manner, etc.
