We have friends that want to stay in the Lion King rooms, but we kind of like the cars room. I know if we both stay in lion King I can’t be promised our rooms will be close anyway. We will have our 6 year old with us, he will be the only child they will have 3 small kids with them. So do we get close so the kids can be closer or do we stay where we want and just walk back and fourth to each other rooms? How close is each of the area’s to one another? Which pools does everything think is the best for kids?

Here is a map of the resort so that you can see the relative positions of the two areas you mention:

As you can see on the map, the Lion King and the Cars sections are on either side of the Animation Hall Building, with the Finding Nemo section in between. Also just a reminder that these are not rooms, they are all suites.

As for the particulars: if you want to be in the same section you can call and request that the two reservations be linked (you will need both reservation numbers to do this). It is only a request, but the resort CMs will do their best to locate you very close to each other. Having said that, there is something to be said for separation. There is such a thing as too much togetherness, no matter how good friends you are. It's not as if you would have a huge distance to travel in order to see each other. The Big Blue pool will be smack in the middle between the two areas, as will the food court.
