Question about an OM-1

I have my late Father's Olympus OM-1. I'm sure a lot of you photo buffs know what a great camera this was. My Father absolutely loved it and took it with him everywhere. Unfortunately, this camera was "damaged beyond repair" due to flooding in Hurricane Andrew in 1993. After my Father died, I was suprised that he still had it, and I kept it as a keepsake. I tried to have it fixed to no avail. From what I've heard from a few different places, the insides are "unrepairable". So, I have this camera, and while I really don't want to junk it or anything, there is no real reason to hang on to it.

So my question is: How hard is it to remove a pentaprism from one of these things? I thought maybe I'd just keep that and keep it in my camera bag.

Anyone know?

If you want the...

... penta prism only - and you don't care about the rest of it then go ahead and take it apart. BUT... are U sure it can't be fixed for a tolerable price? Here are a couple images of a 10D being dissassembled - to sort of get you going!!!!

I sent it off to 3-4 places desperately wanting to get the thing fixed. And they all told me the same thing: "Damaged beyond repair". Of course I was heart broken, but, what can you do?

So the pentaprism can be easily taken out of the camera?

Sonno,

I'm going to see my photography teacher on Monday, he used to teach tech clinics for Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Minolta and Pentax (he started his career as a camera repairman, now 50% of product shots of several camera brands for adverts around the world are all his work). I will ask him about the OM-1. I remember very clearly he used to own one.

PS: you JUST want the pentaprism to be removed the camera?

Yep, I've figured I'm just going to rip the sucker apart and keep the pentaprism from it as a keepsake.
It's the ripping the thing apart stuff that has me befudled. These things were build like tanks!
