Question About Amount of Guests Allowed 1- bedrooms

Hello All!!
I am super excited because my family, who just joined DVC in January, has started to plan their very first vacation 'home' to DVC Resort! (We have been to WDW since we joined, but used points to stay at the Poly.) Ok, just a quick question in regards to the amount of guests allowed in a 1 bedroom. Can we have 5? I have read that 5 are allowed to sleep in the room, but they will not provide any extra bedding. This is fine! I just want to be sure that our family of 5 will be allowed to sleep in the room. The 1 -bedroom will be perfect, and we do not need a 2 person room. Please let me know!

Watch out! You've asked a very loaded question for this board. You will probably be directed to the very long occupancy thread. Anyway, we have a family of five and are permitted to stay in a 1 BR. To us right now it is plenty of room. My oldest son is a scout and has a twin self-inflating camping pad, and it is comfortable for him. There is plenty of floor room. My other two children share the couch bed. You will need to bring extra bedding and towels needed for the fifth person (or pay extra for a towel pack). My kids are still pretty small, so this works for us right now. Many people posting on this board feel the extra person is too much wear and tear on the room and not within the contract occupancy guidelines. We will continue to book 1 bedrooms until our kids are bigger or MS bans it.

Thank you very much for the information! The reason why I ask is that looking through the points charts, the studio sleeps 4, the 1 br. sleeps 4, and the 2 br. sleeps 8. Our family in no way needs an 8 person room, and should not have to resort to that in order to stay at a DVC resort. We are members, and if we are allowed to sleep 5 in a room, than that works well for me! Honestly, DVC is directed towards families, and let's face it...most families have more than 4 people in them. Thank you for your time, and I really do not want to start a debate on this subject.

Officially, the one bedroom only sleeps 4 persons. However, Disney has allowed a child under the age of three to be added to the room. And just recently, DVC Member Services has begun to allow five in a one bedroom. No extra bedding or linens will be provided. You will only have four bath towels, two hand towels and four face cloths.

DVC could at any time revert back to the "four in a one bedroom" requirement. You may want to plan your points for the two bedroom in case DVC will not allow five in the one bedroom at a later date.

Also, five in a one bedroom (other than OKW) can be very crowded. We had four in a one bedroom at SSR once and we were very uncomfortable (three adults and one 10 yr old kiddo). We had tried to get a two bedroom, but we did not get our waitlist request.

What do your legal documents and disclosures you signed when you bought into DVC say?

I do know that when I called to book our trip for November, we wanted a 2 bedroom at VWL. There were no 2 bedrooms but they had 1 bedrooms. The CM asked me how many in the party, when I told her 5 she told me that we could get a 1 bedroom. I questioned the rule about the 4 in a 1 bedroom and she told me that they are letting 5 in the room. But as someone else posted, you have to bring your own bedding and towels. Although this does seem like it would be a little cramped, I know that we will be doing this in January. It is only a quick trip for us, so we figured we should save the other points for the following November.

Several members have posted that 5 were "allowed" in 1 BR - asssume this would mean up to 5 adults.

Has anyone been able to purchase DP for 5?
If you've been accommodated w/5 on ressie, have all gotten a resort ID @ check-in (for EMHs)?

You say this, but I'm not sure you know what the 2 bedroom entails....

A studio is 1 queen bed and 1 full pull out sofa
A 1 bedroom is 1 king bed and 1 queen pull out sofa
A 2 bedroom (lock out) is 1 king bed, 1 queen bed, 1 queen pull out sofa, and 1 full pull out sofa.
A 2 bedroom (dedicated - most cases) is 1 king bed, 2 queen beds and 1 queen pull out sofa.

So IMO, a 2 bedroom is more like a 6 person room than an 8 person room - as 2 of the people will be sleeping on the couch!

Anyway, if you did know this, at least it's more info for someone else =)

An OKW studio has two queen sized beds.
