Question about Ala Carte

I've read that you can purchase any part of a meal ala carte in the parks. For example the fried chicken at Plaza Inn. Is this true? I really want to try that chicken but don't need a full meal also same goes for the chicken sandwich at Hungry Bear, I want just sandwiches only and to share onion rings with my kids.

I believe that is true of the Plaza Inn. I know you can get extra pieces of chicken there for a nominal fee so I wouldn't doubt you could get just the chicken.

I have no desire to eat mashed potatoes so all I really want is some chicken and a biscuit so I hope this is the case

This blanket statement is not true. I know I have run into places that won't sell items a la carte. Award Wieners in DCA comes to mind. I don't know if you can get just fried chicken for a lesser cost at Plaza Inn. I do know you can request substitutions. My boy loves mashed potatoes so gets a double scoop of them instead of green beans.

I agree, especially places where you get a choice of sides, be ready for them not to offer a price break on a la carte, but just offer to leave off unwanted items. As for the biscuit, I could see that being something that only comes with the meal, and not offered a la carte. They may sell the chicken if it's in addition to another meal, though I think I remember someone reporting that they bought the drumsticks. I don't remember if it was an add on or just the drumsticks themselves. You can sub onion rings for the fries or slaw at Hungry Bear, I wouldn't count on a sandwich only, if they'll do it, to be the menu price minus the a la carte fries price, in which case you might as well pay the difference to substitute. I've gotten extra sides or just sides at Flo's. It wouldn't surprise me if they won't eliminate the sides for less money, it's more like to supplement the entree if sharing, you can add extra sides. I know that Cafe Orleans won't sell just a sandwich on their meals that include sweet potato fries, even if you're ordering pomme frites. They might substitute something like extra grapes, but there's no across the board a la carte pricing.

For the chicken at Plaza Inn you might try the child's portion. I don't believe they sell their items a la carte

We've bought just pieces of chicken on several occasions (most recent Dec. 2015), and once bought an extra biscuit at Plaza Inn.
I've done this too. I think a chicken breast is about $3.50 and the extra biscuit with a meal was an extra $1 dollar. If you're not too hungry, the chicken kids meal is perfect. That's what I normally order, because the regular dinner is so huge!

I've also heard you can order just a corn dog, without the apple slices or chips, at a discounted price.

Yes, we did this at Stage Door Cafe in Dec, got just the corn dog and skipped the fries. It was a couple of dollars less, I think. And several years ago we did this at the Little Red Wagon (next to Plaza Inn), skipped the chips/apples. Sometimes, you just want that corndog, and not the other stuff!

I had the opposite happen at Stagedoor. I ended up running into some co-workers and stayed for PTN/Fireworks when I had originally planned to be in the parks for a few hours, so I was almost out of cash and had no cc. One of my co-workers insisted on a corndog and fries, so I asked the CM if they still had mozzarella sticks and if so how much... And they told me you can get them as a meal with fries. My first reaction was "Ugh, no!" That's way too much fried on fried. But then I sort of thought about it...

Stagedoor Cafe needs a fried item sampler. Preferably served in some sort of wagon wheel shaped plate. And one of each dipping sauce.

I don't believe I know who she is.

;) lol........... never mind.... ;
:faint:

I know you can just get he corndogs as we to have done this. I just wasn't sure about other places... some blogs say you can order just about anything ala carte at quick service places but I can't seem to find definitive info

I have ordered a burger at Hungry Bear a la carte and was charged a lower price. Since they sell cheeseburgers and not hamburgers you also have to order a cheeseburger without cheese :0) I don't believe they reduced the cost due to lack of cheese though...

We have ordered a corn dog a la carte at Little Red Wagon. You cannot get hot dogs a la carte at Coke Corner or Award Wieners though. I have ordered burgers and sandwiches at Hungry Bear a la carte. My family wouldn't eat the sweet potato fries when that was the only fries choice there, so ordering a la carte was a nice option. I know I can order add-ons to meals for an extra cost such as an extra biscuit or chicken at Plaza Inn or extra roll at French Market or extra sides at Flo's Diner for example. I didn't know that I could just order a few pieces of chicken at Plaza Inn a la carte though, so that is good to know.

Even though I love the sourdough bread, I sometimes wish I could just order a bowl or cup of soup rather than a whole bread bowl. You can't do this, but you can at least get the soup in a separate cup on the side so your bread isn't all soggy and doesn't have to be all eaten at once or thrown out.
