Question about AirTran?

Has anyone used AirTran Airways? If so, how were they? Right now they seem to be the cheapest for our flight, but I've not heard much about them.

Any info would be helpful. TIA

We've used AirTran several times and have never had a problem with them. They're similar to Southwest, a discount airline with very few frills, but they do offer assigned seating unlike Southwest.

They were the launch customer for Boeing's 717 aircraft a few years ago, so their planes are for the most part newer than most other airlines. Does anyone know if they've phased out all of their older DC-9s and 727s?

They absorbed Valujet a while back, and last I heard, they are doing well financially. They fly out of Chicago, but we have never used them personally because of the lack of direct flights to Orlando. But I think they would be fine.

We flew AirTran out of Dayton this past December, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Curb-side check-in was a breeze, the seats were comfortable, and their staff were friendly. And, of course, the great fare didn't hurt, either.

I'm watching, now, for rates for Oct./Nov., hoping AirTran's will go down once Southwest releases their schedule.

117 days and counting . . . again!

They fly the newest fleet in the nation with all new 717's and they've ordered new 737's.

Thanks for the replys!!

inky dinky doo: your time frame sounds similar to ours- Oct/Nov (Oct 30 or 31 depending on the times to Nov.6) Usually fly out of Cleveland, but Airtran out of Akron/Canton looks to be cheaper. Hoping the price will drop a little.

We're flying Air Trans for the 1st time in two and a half weeks. We're flying out of Philadelphia and the price was right. I'll let you know how it goes but I've heard only good things about it from others.,

They didn't absorb ValueJet, they are ValueJet. They had to change their name after they dropped a plane into the Florida everglades. Understandable.

We have used them several times and found the service to be fine. The only complaint I had was the lines at the airport to check-in and get your boarding pass, but I have heard Airtran has improved this since our last flight. You should have no problems.

AirTran and ValuJet were two seperate airlines, with AirTran opperating B737-200's and ValuJet opperating DC-9-30's - after the Everglades mishap, AirTran bought ValuJet, and opperated some of their routes & aircraft. AirTran now only flies new Boeing 717-200 and 737-700 aircraft (with the couple of CRJ's and A320-200's leaving the fleet in July/August/September).

We're using AirTran from MSP to MCO in a little over 2 weeks too. I've never used them before but I am excited about the idea of having a direct flight. I like the idea that they are newer planes.

We have tickets for Air Tran from Rochester, NY to Orlando in August. We have flown them to Orlando our last 4 visits as they seem to have the cheapest flights. The airplanes are all very nice and we have had no problems at all. My son flys to Atlanta often and prefers Air Tran to Delta.

We always use Airtran and prefer over Southwest any day. I would even pay more to stick with Airtran. You can actually chhose your seats 24 hours before a flight. They are also one of the few airlines that travel non stop from my state Maryland to Orlando. We have always had great service with their friendly and professional staff. We are flying them again in October as I bought tickets two months ago.

Thanks for everyones replys!:p I'm glad to hear good things about them. I think that's who we will use, especially since they are the cheapest.

We love Airtran, great frequent flyer program, never had a problem, flown at least six times with them out of Flint, Mi and have reservations for July and Sept this year, newest fleet of jets in the industry and by the end of summer should have xm satelite radio on all planes. But thats just my opinion
