Question about ADRs

Was thinking about something. . .

On our last trip we utilized the DDP----though we booked closer to our departure date than the 180 out window for making ADRs, we managed some excellent choices.

We anticipate this year's trip being this coming fall (with the week already selected)----but probably won't book it until later in the year for our own reasons.

If we don't have our trip officially booked at the 180 mark, can we still make ADRs at that time? As ADRs are for everyone including those who stay off property, there must be a way to make reservations without a confirmation number. Can it be done online-----or in this sort of instance do you need to do it over the phone?

Does this make sense? Can I book ADRs at 180 days out from October 29th----and THEN book the trip (say in August) with the DDP and have it all work out?

Thanks for any and all info in advance!

You have to have your trip booked prior to making your ADR's, as far as I know.

Without a reservation, you won't be able to book them all on your 180 day mark. You will have to call in each day and book the reservations that are 180 days out from that particular day. Also, any dining packages or dinner shows such as Hoop De Doo, you will have to pay for up front and then try to get your money refunded once you are on the dining plan, if you choose to book a dining plan.

Yup, you sure can make your ADRs without have a resort reservation. Did it for my trip we took in May. ADRs are for everyone, not just WDW resort guests. You won't have the benefit of the 180+10 like resort guests with a reservation number.

This isnt entirely correct - anyone can make reservations 180 days out or less. What you can't do is make reservations at 180 days from the first day of your trip for up to 10 days in one transaction. If you do not have an onsite stay already booked, you must call or go on line every day to make reservations (if you wish to make reservations at 180 days out for each day of your planned trip).

Within 180 days, you don't have to have any trip booked, you don't have to be staying onsite, and even locals can make reservations if they want to.

With the exception of prepaid reservations (CRT or dinner shows), at the time you book reservations it makes no difference whether you are on a dining plan or not.

Thanks for the info---I do appreciate it! Hadn't thought about the one day at a time thing. . .but it makes sense. Who knows, maybe all will fall into place and we'll book earlier----but if not, glad to know we might be able to grab a special ADR or two ahead of time! :thumbsup2
