Question about ADR's

I am pretty new to this but I was just wondering....

I am going during the free dining . Now it is my understanding (from reading the boards) that people have been able to make ADR's from 180 days out. Does that mean people may have made multiple ADR's for the same meals? It seems so difficult to think that everyone can do such great planning that far in advance. ( I admit that it would be hard for me to do.)

So, on that premise, do people usually call to cancel or do they just hold reservations that they will not be making?

I am really just curious about this. :confused3

Thanks,
Pam

I made my ADRs for our Christmas trip 180 days in advance. What I did was I looked online at the park hours that were posted on the WDW website, and made a rough estimate of where we plan to be each day. Then, I made my dinner ADRs corresponding to these parks. I think most people just make one for each day's dinner, and then either change or cancel any once it is closer to their trip and have a better idea of what they'll be doing each day. I'm pretty sure most people don't make several ADRs for each day, knowing that they will only be going to one.

Most people make 1 ADR per meal to the one that they really want to go to and then if they change their mind phone up and cancel. Alot of people don't cancel and just don't turn up but its best to cancel if you can because it allows others to take that reservation

Here's what may be a very dumb question but... here goes. When they talk about a 180 day window opening up... is that to the DAY you want to book at any particular restaurant OR to the day you activate your park pass. For example, if we start our first day of many on a Monday but want an particular ADR for the Saturday, when does that window open up... 180 days from Monday or Saturday? Thanks for helpinga DW Newbie!

It depends on whether you are staying onsite or not. Anyone can make ADRs 180 days out. You would make the ADR for Monday 180 days from Monday and the ADR for Saturday 180 days from Saturday. Each ADR can be made 180 days from the date you are scheduling for.

To complicate matters...if you are staying onsite, you can make all your ADRs for your trip at 180 days from your arrival date, for up to 10 days. If your trip is longer than 10 days, the ADRs for those later dates would have to be made when you get within the 180 plus 10 window. Hope that makes sense!
