Question about adding points

Ok, we are still in the research phase and I had a question. Trying to figure out how many points we need as compared to how many we can afford.

If we were to buy less points now, say the minimum of 160, and later on add 50-75 points, are they all part of the same use year or do they become different meaning there is a possibility of not having enough points some years depending on what we want to do.

Basically I am thinking we need 225 pts. Thinking of buying 160pts and borrowing each year so we could go 2 out of every 3 years. After a few years when we can afford more points buying the rest to get ourselves to the 225 mark.

I am just concerned that depending on use years and what are plans are from year to year there could be a point where the extra points are not available for the month we want to go.

Does that make sense? Basically trying to figure out if there are any major drawbacks to buying less points now and adding later on (aside from the fact that years later the $ per point is more).

Thanks

Well I think that is a good idea to just buy in at the minimum and get your feet wet. See how many extra you are going to need and then add on. If you decide to add on you can do so through Disney and it will automatically get you the same use year but you would need to get the same resort as your home of you are wanting to hve th 11 month booking advantage.
You couldnt by SSR resort now at 160 and then add 75 at AKV and be able to use the 75 you added on to get SSR at 11 months out.

You could also buy from resell when you want to add on and just look for the same use year as you already have.

I hope that I did not confuse you.;)

I agree with luvindisneyworld. Buy a small contract, get your feet wet, and buy more in a couple of months. :rotfl2:

That's what we did. I hate to tell you how many points we have now. We're getting use to eating soup every night for dinner. Skipping all holidays and birthdays is a real cost saver. Who needs clean clothes anyway. :thumbsup2

Seriously, the DVC is not for everyone. Better to start off small to see if you really like it. You can always add on later.
