Question about add-ons and reservations...I am confused

Okay, so we just bought SSR and I am already considering an add-on at VWL. I have a Dec UY, but I figure if I get on the waitlist now, I can hopefully get waived through the next price increase. Here is the question...

If you have points at two different resorts, how do you make reservations? For example, I have 250 SSR points and 50 VWL. I want to book VWL at 11 months. Can I only book enought nights that the 50 points would cover? Or can I book the entire stay? Does that make sense? I guess I am just trying to figure out how the whole owning at two resorts thing works.

Your points give you the 11 month booking advantage for the resort they are at. You would have 50 points, or more if you banked and borrowed, (so at most 150), to make a reservation at the VWL at 11 months out.

Others will say it better, I'm sure - but my understanding is that you can only book at the 11 month window with points at THAT resort...you can't combine SSR points and VWL points at the 11 month window at VWL....you can only use the VWL lodge points at the 11 month window at VWL...and the SSR points at the SSR window at SSR. But you can book one, wait for the 7 month window and try to transfer. That way you have a backup ressie just in case.

You will have to use banking/borrowing in order to maximize the 50 points at the 11month window. If you are planing to stay at VWL at the most popular times, figure out your point usage and buy accordingly. For instance, you may find that 60 points is better than 50 points (of course, more points are ALWAYS better, but YKWIM).

In that scenario, you would be best to bank the 50 points into the next year, and then make a ressie that year also borrowing the following year. In that way, you have enough points for a 150 point ressie at VWL.

Actually that was the reason we have our add-on at our same home resort. We wanted access to all the points at the 11 month window, and we don't really care if we can't get into anything other than our home resort.
