How are the food there generally speaking, especially the salmon dish and vege lasagna?
Do people usually go there for the food or the experience?
Do I need to be familiar with TV shows in the 50' to appreciate the experience?
My parents didn't grow up in the US so I don't know what the 50's would be like.
Since we are on vacation, I would like to try something different with my family, as long as the food is good.

TIA!

I've only had the fried chicken which is very good, but I no longer eat fried food. I would say that our reason for going there multiple times was for the experience. They have toned down the humor and kidding around. Years ago, it was a rip roaring good time. The waiter behaved like family and would scold you if you didn't eat your vegetables or put your elbows on the table. My family always behaved badly and played along. My husband always tattled. It was fun. Our last visit was quite boring. Some people don't enjoy the entertainment, and it appears that some waitstaff don't fool around anymore. We aren't going this year because the joking around was our main reason for going.

I think you can enjoy it without being familiar with the 50's. I was raised in the 70's & 80's, but I know about the 50's from classic tv shows. If you have access to those tv shows, it would help you understand better.

If you like being scolded for elbows on the table and not finishing your veggys. Than go for it.

I did not find 50s prime time worth it. We had an ADR and waited something like an hour and half after our time. The food was meh for the price and our server was not in the spirit of the restaurant theme. That being said, she did bring my son a birthday cupcake and sang happy birthdy to him.

Never tried either, but the food is quite good.

People usually go for the experience. But many go for the food. We do.

No. There are TV's in the rooms and on some tables but you don't need to be familiar with the short clips they show. Just have fun seeing what was popular on TV in the era.

Then this would be a lot of fun! You get a pretty good stereotype feel of the American household of the 1950's.

Then this is a great place to try - perfect for trying something different with your family while on vacation.

We had lunch at 50s Prime Time last month....really enjoyed it. Our server, Quinn was energetic and overbearing....but in a fun, cheerful way. I had the salmon with green beans and mashed potatoes. Yummy. I thought they did a good job with the salmon....cooked properly.....cooked through but not overcooked. I cleaned my plate! We all liked the onion rings. My sons were able to substitute French fries for the veggies they wouldn't have eaten ....so no worry about that being an issue. DH had the vegetable lasagna....he did didn't comment one way or another, but he ate it all with no complaints :)

Definitely no need to be familiar with the 50s tv shows to appreciate the decor....even if the references are not familiar, you can still enjoy being in a different setting.

We had lunch here and after mentioning to our server we were mostly there for the homestyle food were admonished only once abouut elbows in the table. Our server even took my email address to send us the recipes for our entrees.. we liked. Do not be scared off. It is what you make it.

We're trying this for the first time in October and I really hope we get a good waiter. I understand that it is part of the fun and that is one reason we will be going there.

The menu looks like "comfort food" which is not what I typically prefer. I did enjoy one great meal there with chicken soup as appetizer, and an apparently vegan entree with spaghetti, tomato sauce, vegetarian "meatballs" and no cheese, but it was delicious even without cheese! This dish has left the adult menu, and their veggie lasagna doesn't look as good to me, so I haven't been back since.

Can't comment in the vegetable lasagna but I thought it was just okay. We had a cool waiter but it wasn't as interactive as i thought it would be.

I was a small child in the 60's and I love going there for the memory lane thing. A lot of the decorations in the lobby are things my mother and Aunts actually had. And I do enjoy the food. The place is better when you get a waiter/waitress that gets into it.

We’ve been to 50’s a couple of times. Once with a family of 10 and once with just me and my better half. Had a great time both times. As long as you don’t mind being embarrassed (and I don’t) you will have a good time. If you use the bathrooms make sure you know the color of the soap. Thank goodness I did or I would have been standing in the corner lol! We like both the chicken and the pot roast and you have to try their peanut butter and jelly shake. It was AMAZING!
