Hey! Can anyone help me out? I have a quest machine (haven't actually used it - it's like I can't be alone for five minutes together in my room!) and I don't know how to use it to pay out credits to someone (like if you wanted to make a trade). Can anyone explain it to me? Thanks.

You're not supposed to use it to trade credits *coughcough* but all you would have to do is put the credits in as a prize, make a 1 question quest for the person to do anything. Turn it on and have them do said task. That's it.

As a precaution, make sure you and the other person are alone in the room. If you have to, boot other people, but explain. You can also block the entrance after the other person arrives so that others cannot get to the machine.

Also, make sure that the quest question is not timed but rather prize is given out as completed. I believe the default for a quest machine is a timed quest.

I learned the hard way. I tried to trade credits for an item I was looking for. I had PMed the other person the question and answer for the machine ahead of time. We met in my room with the machine. He started the quest but had forgotten the answer. Meanwhile there were a few other people I knew in the room as well. I did not want to say the answer out loud so I opened a trade window to give the answer again. I did not notice that somebody was also looking at the quest and in the background was saying "oh I hope I win." The trade window closed and the person gave the answer. Right after another person gave the answer as well. My quest had been timed so the second person was then in first for the prize. My biggest mistake was then ending the quest right then, I should have gotten a friend to answer faster so that I could have gotten my credits back. However, never having used it before I did not and ended the quest which gave somebody else a boat load of credits.

They had been on my friend's list so I did not worry at first but of course, I see a few minutes later that they removed me from their list. I could not find them to try to get either my credits back or at least items that would total what I lost. They knew what they had done and felt no shame in taking something that did not belong to them. So it goes.

Again, do not let anybody else in the room once the person you are trading with arrives. That way, nobody else could try to do the quest because you have to be close to it to begin it.

Wow, Iris - what a bummer! I would have been so mad. Thanks for the tips though. I guess blocking the door is super important, or making the question so random that only the person with whom you are trading could possibly answer.

I appreciate all the advice!

I was bummed but got over it.

My question was very random and unless I had given the answer, nobody could have gotten it. The person that ended up with the credits just repeated what the other person had said and BAM, won the quest because he had a faster time.

In the big scheme of things, it turned out ok because the person who took my credits was somebody that was always asking me for stuff and I was just to polite to remove him from my list. At least I no longer have this person following me around. So I look at the bright side.

I usually give the answer to my quest in the trade window for the item. Or if they want the credits first, I give it to them in a trade window first, then get the item from a second trade window.

Blocking the door is a good idea though. I should do that too just in case.

I always choose the "say something" task, too.

One other thing to add: when you have to test the quest, you will have to type the secret message yourself, which of course will float on screen for everyone to see who is around. When testing, leave the room, go to one of your uninhabited ones and say it, then return. If someone tries to follow to see what's going on, you might have to change the message until you are sure it's only going to show up to the rest of the room after the person has already claimed the credits.

OMG Iris, that is terrible!! I had a nervous moment when I was
transferring credits to a DISer because the amount was substantial.

I used a "secret word" that I made sure the other player knew in the
trade window as the task to "win" the quest, and I made sure it was
set on the non-timed setting, as well.

But when a friend came by when I didn't close off the entrance, I was
a little abrupt to tell them that they couldn't do my quest. The friend
left before I could explain I'm trading credits, but after I sent a PM, it
was all good. :)

I think that if you're doing this, I would suggest:

Don't open the quest machine until the other player who will 'win' is
in the room AND has the correct answer to the quest. After the
player is in the room, close off the quest area around you and the player.

THEN go and open the quest to the player. Even if you needed to repeat
the answer out loud (for whatever reason), if nobody else can get to the
quest machine, it won't make a difference.

Just put in a clue that is totally wrong. :) Make the task 'say something' but make the clue something else like go someplace. The person you are giving credits to should know the answer but anyone else will try to follow the wrong clue and never get it right. :rotfl2:
