We sent 4 people on to our guide who were interested in DVC after telling them how much we love it. 2 of them have purchased the others are waiting for financial reasons. We live in PA and aparently they can not do anything in the state of PA. When I called and asked about it I was told to stop by and our guide would see what he could do. We called when we got down there and he said we could stop by but wasn't sure why we already saw the tour of SS. I am just wondering about this if there is nothing that they do then I am ok. I just thought it was odd the way it was handled. Do they truly do anything when you provide referrals? When we signed we took 4 hrs of our day and were offered a fast pass. When our friends signed they got dinner?

Timeshares are HEAVILY governed by many states. The laws on the books in a lot of states still reflect the "timeshares are a scam" theories generated by the early failure of a lot of timeshares in the early 80's. Therefore, just like they have rules on "pyramid schemes", they have rules on "receiving gifts" for referrals to purchase timeshares.

DVC would LOVE to "cut you in" on the action, and in many states they do. However, if word got out (to the lawmakers in PA) that DVC was in fact compensating you in some way when you went to WDW....they would STILL be in trouble. You are governed by the laws of PA (as far at timeshares go) even when you are in WDW, because you are a resident of PA.

We used to live in AZ, and recently moved to TX....both states that do not allow us to receive anything for referrals. I have referred a few people, but cannot receive anything for it...I just consider it a "goodwill" kind of thing.
