I posted this in the transportation forum but I haven't had any answers so maybe someone who has stayed at WH and has done this before could help.

Greetings everyone,

My DH is not a really big fan of the parks...he would rather relax on vacation ( Who knew that was even possible with 3 kids lol) So we have 3 parks that we are definitely doing as a family but I really want to take the kids to AK since that is my favorite park and I think all my kids will love it in their own way. DH is more than happy to sit this one out with his dad.

So question is...whats the easiest way to get from Windsor Hills to AK. It will be me, my MIL, and my 3 kiddos. Is there a bus that can take us from the resort?, can he drop us off at the park or somewhere close and then pick us up when we're ready? He will have the car for the day incase he and his dad want to go somewhere out of the resort. If not I would drive myself to the park.

Any ideas?

I just did a search and saw that there are buses that will take you for $10.00. Has anyone done this? Is that the price for each person?

just going to AK you might consider a taxi - just make sure he uses the short cut.

It would probably be less than $20.

yes, the price on the bus is $10 per person.

I would just have him drop you off there in the morning...AK is RIGHT next door to WHR...it's less than a 5 minute ride to get to it. Take the Sherberth Road shortcut into Disney from WDW and it's right there on your left...make a right at Animal Kingdom Lodge light and it's there on your immediate left.

Let him go spend his day then doing whatever, catch a cab home if you want or have him pick you up there later, AK closes early anyhow and it's so close by. Go take a bus from AK - AKL for dinner if you want when it closes...eat at Jiko or Boma, both are excellent, and you can see AKL then too, then cab it home from there.

Of course, you can always park hop over to EP, MGM, MK, DTD later on for more fun or activities, and have him meet you at DTD too, or even the Disney Boardwalk!

Getting around once you're at AK or getting back to WHR should be easy, there should be cabs everywhere, that's how I'd do it, but when heading towards home. It has to be no more than a $10-15 cab ride home to WHR from AK, which is what the bus charges per person, it's 2 miles..less than 5 minutes distance.

Thanks for responding. I think I like the idea of him dropping me off.

5mins2disney - Do you know where I can find a map that shows where Sherbeth is relation to WH and AK. I tried searching on Mapquest but since I don't know the address of our townhouse yet I can't find one with that road.

Sure I have one posted on my site for DIS members:

On the map AKL = Animal Kingdom Lodge...AK = Animal Kingdom. Where it says "toll booth"...that's the entrance to Animal Kingdom...you make a hard left right there, go through the toll booth and the parking / entrance is right there.

If you wanted to go to AKL you would go left where it says Black Lake Road.
There's a traffic light where you cross US-192 (big busy road..AKA Irlo Bronson)...and another you make a RIGHT at where Sherberth turns into Black Lake...that's Osceola where you make a right to go to the rest of WDW. To hit AK you would then make an immediate left, comes up fast it's right there to enter AK parking lot. Where it says Disney arrow---> you will see signs for the rest of the Disney areas. For many of them you go a short distance and then be in your left lane, as there's a light where you take a left for MK, Epcot, DTD, etc., it's very well marked, but some have told me it's confusing (Disney is BIGGG!).

To get back to WHR from anywhere on the WDW Resort, just follow any signs to AK/AKL, stay left like you're going to AKL...and make a left at the light before AKL. Alternatively you can follow any of the signs on Disney to 192...and always go 192 WEST. (Then a left at the Old Lake Wilson light).
