queen bed vs. king

I just thought of something new to worry about. I booked two of my adult children in their own room for our next trip...and I told the CM that they are brother and sister...but since there are only the two of them, I am now wondering if I should call back yet again and formally request a room with two queens. Because they share the same last name, I am afraid that whoever assigns the rooms might give them a king if there's a shortage of queens, figuring they are husband and wife rather than brother and sister. Do the details never end???? Do you think this is worth calling about or am I just obsessing?

I don't think it will be a problem. King bedded rooms are rare in most resorts. At some resorts, you pay extra.

But... if it were me, I would note a request for 2 queen beds on the reservation.

It can also depend on how the handicapped-assessible rooms are set up in a resort. Sounds weird, but true! At some of the deluxe resorts, many (if not most) king beds are in handicapped-assessible rooms, which have large bathrooms and roll-in showers and no tub. I know at WL, many of these rooms are on the ground floor (one floor below the lobby). IF these room aren't all filled with people needing a handicapped-assessible room, then the resort must fill them with solos or duos, to save the 2 queens for larger families who really need 2 beds.

This has happened to me twice as a solo, both times at WL. I never asked for a king. But I keep getting assigned a king bed handicapped room on the ground floor - I can forget about ever having a balcony and a view! I truly dislike the ground floor for security reasons, but I can never get off of it. :(The computer will always place me in a room with a king bed and handicapped-assessible, even if I request different. :(

So YES - I would request 2 queens! Maybe you have more luck than me. You are at the Contemporary? I don't know if they are set up like WL or not, but it may be very likely to get a handicapped-assessible king. Be prepared to politely persuade the check-in CM to change to 2 queens - like in my situation, sometimes the computer just looks at the party size and requests are often never viewed at all.

I'd call and have it added to the ressie. I'm sure they would not find it comical to have to sleep in the same bed. It would make check in much easier. You might want to add that they not be next door, maybe even a different floor. :rotfl:

skipperkim, we're in the CR tower and I tried to get DS and DD in the garden wing but they were all sold out! I did mention to the CM that there was no need to try to get them in a room close by!

Hugsfor Eeoyre, when DH and I last stayed at WL we were upgraded :cloud9: to a courtyard view with one queen or king bed--don't remember exactly what size. The room was on the upper floor and had one of those enclosed balconies. So there is at least definitely one king (or queen) bed up there! I have just consulted my scrapbook and while I did not take a picture of the room interior, I did make a note that the room number was Room 6151. Next time, shoot for that room!

I will make that call and reiterate that this is a brother/sister duo, and at CR prices, I would rather not have them fighting over who gets the bed and who gets the pull-out thing.

My experience has been that they try to pawn the 2 queens off on everybody. Everytime we've gone we're requested a King and everytime they have tried to give us 2 beds (even on our honeymoon!) Thankfully it's always been corrected once I speak up. I would however call and let them know you want 2 beds, but everything should be okay on this one:thumbsup2

King beds, as stated, are very hard to get at Disney World. I wouldn't worry about it at all. I would maybe call and note that you do NOT want the king bed (trust me, they will be able to reassign it in a hurry - like to me!).

Everytime we stay on park (which is everytime we go), we request a king bed. To date we have never gotten one--not even on our honeymoon.

And this includes the times we have chosen and paid for a king bed . . . instead we get two queens with a water view. Chances are it won't be a problem.

We stayed at Coronado Springs for our honeymoon and requested and got a king bed (smallish, but a little bigger than a queen). I had no idea that single-bed rooms were so rare!
