Quantity Problem: Traditional vs. Digital

We have recently returned from our first trip and I have picked out all the pics I want in my book and there are 850! I was planning on traditional scrapping, but am not sure I can fit that many in one album. Has anyone ever used this many pics in traditional or digital?

Thanks for any info/advice!

Done an album (actually it turned out to be two) with that many pictures for a five day trip. I bet you could easily use that many pictures in a digi album.:goodvibes

I have the same problem...and who really needs 5 shots of the elephants on the safari?....but I solve it by doing collages. I have started doing a lot more collages and printing pictures in wallet sizes or smaller (sometimes in a variety of smaller sizes just for fun). If you are a "straight line" kind of scrapbooker like I am and it is hard to do something abstract you can always cut your photos to 3x3 squares and do a 4 square by 4 square collage page (the whole page would be photos...also a great "cheap" page because you need little if any embellishments)

I am currently doing a 5 day trip for family and plan on highlighting one of two photos from significant events on the left page in a more traditional and dressed up scrapbook page and put all the rest in a blocked photo grid like I described above. It's a nice dramatic presentation and it gets a ton of photos in one album.

I happened to be on this trip with a photo-crazy (at one point she was taking 3 photos a minute) who documented everything so narrowing things down is nearly impossible.

Thanks for the info! I like the collage idea. I thnk that is a great idea...then you only have to decorate the one side of the "spread". I am trying to not crop in on most of my pics so I can cut them down quite a bit. I like the idea of cutting 3x3 or 4x4. I always have trouble cutting exactly perfect squares with the person in the center, so I think I might make a template that is a little bit bigger than the square I want and make marker dots in the corners to use as guides. Now the only question is can I still fit it all into one book...we'll see. I am ordering the pics this weekend. Thanks again!

One of the great things about digi is you can "block" your photos and get a lot of them on one page. If you have a look at Christy's pages (DisneyCruiser) she is a master at this. I think she posts mostly in the CM-SBC thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1826831

Here is an example of what I'm talking about but you could easily fit twice as many pics and on 12x12 they're good size.

I've pretty much gone digital in the last year - mostly out of necessity - and I love it. I always have a hard time narrowing down vacation pics to use in my layouts. But I've found lots of great templates for loads of photos. Here's one I used for a character breakfast, got 20 pics on just this side of the 2 pager.

The nice thing about digital is that it's so easy to resize and/or crop photos when making layouts. And if you don't like the way it looks you can just undo it and start over again.

Robin and wenrob,

What software are you using to do your pages? I really need to be going digital because I like sitting on the couch with my laptop and not having scrap stuff all over my dining room. I just want something a little more than what most photo sites offer for their books, but am not ready to do any major digital designing.

Thank you!

I use Paint Shop Pro and buy digital kits to put it all together. The pages I posted are using kits made by designers but the page itself is designed by me.
